Hello there....

I recently purchased a new Buckmark Camper. I go shooting just about every weekend and my boyfriend and I go through a considerable amount of rounds. We usually have a couple of .22 rifles and whatever handguns we have at the time. This time we decided to only bring his 9mm and my brand spanking new Buckmark.

300+ rounds may be too much for the first time out but towards the last 10 or 20 rounds - the rear sight rail came loose enough so that the firing pin got out of line and was not striking the cartridge right - and not firing the round.

Has anyone else had issues like this or is it because we put so many rounds through the first time out?

There are washers at each of these screws, I have had my Buckmark sight loosen up (front screw) and cause misfires. I don't know if this is a problem needing fixing. I simply check and tighten up the sight screws every couple hundred rounds and it shoots fine. If you wind up getting a better answer, I too, will be interested in knowing it.

Put a little Medium Loktite on the screws and don't even think about taking them off for 5000 rounds or so. I lock my slide back and clean everything I can get to. Every 1000 rounds I spray it out with plastic-safe gun cleaner and relube the innards with a few drops of CLP.
Done.

HG,

I have never had that problem to cause the gun to stop firing, but:

Did you put it back together by tightening the hex screw and did it function fine afterwards?

If yes, that's good and I would only suggest using blue (medium) loctite in the screw threads next time. Go easy on the loctite at first and only put enough on the threads to make it work properly.

As for the cleaning, there are some folks who don't clean their buckmark barrels for several thousand rounds and believe it or not, that works just fine. The precision doesn't seem lost on those folks.

Just make sure to clean the chamber (where the bullet enters the barrel) thoroughly and clean the action well.

Keep an eye on the tightness of those screws, as it is obviously important that they stay tight (mine have loosened up on me at times, and in my case a good deal of blue loctite fixed my problem). Once you have the loctite on there, you don't need to "reef" on them, just tighten them up securely. The loctite seems to work for quite a while.

Again, I would suggest visiting the browning section of the forum on rimfirecentral.com for anybody who owns a buckmark. That is the best source of info on the buckmark on the web.

Regards.,

Be Cautious

as Browning Buckmark Camper models have a plastic sight base~!

Tighten the screws down too tight, and the plastic base will split. :uhoh:

That is why I chose this model [051361490]; its the Browning Buckmark
Classic Plus SE- with Laminate Rosewood Pro-Target Grips, and Tru-Glo's
Green Marble front sight, with a 5.5" bull barrel. The sight base is metal. ;)

FWIW, a little dab of Blue Loc-Tite does work wonders in keeping the screws
from working loose on all variations of the Buckmarks.

Ala Dan and Huntergirl,

You can replace that plastic sight base with a aluminum picatinny rail with a built-in rear sight from tacticalsol.com. I have one on my URX stainless buckmark and had I originally known that back when I had the camper model (the plastic sight base cracked on mine and was sent back to browning and then sold), I would have kept the blued camper and just replaced the barrel AND the base with tactical solutions products instead. Their buckmark accessories (and ruger accessories) are simply awesome. I have no affiliation with the company, I just really like their products and their prices are reasonable. :)

I have an older Buck Mark. I think it's a 91 model. There's no telling how many rounds I have put through it. I don't remember specifically having that problem or not, but in addition to the external tooth lock washers, I also must have installed a small rubber o-ring a long time ago on top of the lock washer. I noticed recently while looking on the Browning parts web site that the o-ring is not used on the Buck Mark, so I must have added it for that reason.
