Budget US made snubbie

Having been dirt poor to dead broke for a significant number of my of 71+years, I can certainly understand wanting a firearm for personal defense right now as opposed to waiting a few months while I save the $80-$100 for something others might see as a better choice.

Would I prefer a used/new S&W to a Charter Arms? Yes. I own a S&W 36 and have never owned a Charter. I hear that quality of CA firearms has varied over the years.

I have never understood those who have the affluence to say "just save your money and get a better (in their opinion) handgun." The first rule is have a gun.

Sounds like the OP is reconsidering his options based on the availability of handguns in his price range.
I was one dirt poor son-of-a-gun working full time at a number of full time low paying jobs to pay cash to attend school part time. It took 13 years all told, but during that time I acquired several good quality guns as well as a good quality mechanics tool set. I learned early that as a poor working stiff I couldn't afford to buy anything less than top quality tools. The extra time, sacrifice & patience were well rewarded over time as I slowly accumulated a very good quality set of mechanics tool as well as a excellent quality guns for defense & hunting.
"Buy once, Cry once" is a sentiment I've heard countless times from professional techs over the years. And it's a guiding rule I've learned to follow over the years. I've never regretted the money spent on quality, but Insure have had a few instances of regret for settling for something lesser.

Manny... I agree completely, and I also follow that logic. I have S$W and Ruger revolvers. They are great guns, but I have had very good luck with my Charter, Taurus, and Rossi revolvers as well, and feel that there is a place for budget guns, especially when they offer features that no one else does(as in the case of my 6 Shot Charter 38, 6 shot Rossi 357, and 7 shot Taurus 357 snubs).
