Recently, due to a transfer with work, I was able to move back to the family farm. Also, due to my work I carry on a regular basis and I am wanting to "up my game".
Therefore I am looking build a range that includes about a 150-200 yard run through uneven terrain before you begin shooting. My plan is to build 3-6 shooting stations that are seperated by about 30 yds each. This will allow another sprint between stations to keep up the heart rate.
I am looking for ideas for the individual shooting stations. Obvious ones would be standing and shooting from behind cover, shooting from the knee or your 4th point, and shooting from the prone. I also have an old car that could be used to shoot from a "somewhat" protected position. If ya'll have any ideas or experience with this I would love to hear them... I mainly need ideas for the individual stations. Thanks in advance.

**Note- I am allotting about 2.5 acres for this and it is partially wooded and partially clear.

I'm thinking you are not getting too many responses is cause we are so jealous:what:

need versatility--
rifle both iron & optics
handgun primary & BUG

a working farm congers the idea of working metal;
so lots of reactive targets and gongs.
size & space them such that you can engage them from both directions.

a raised platform (4x8ish) to pron off of and to dump your range 'stuff' on.
and post cardboard on the way down to engage on the way back. for handgun IDPA type scenarios
---can of spray paint for silhouettes on the bigger pieces of metal.
gaters have their own rules and will be delt with in a seperate post.

send pictures!

No ideas other than to be very safety conscious, which I'm sure you will.

Definitely sounds very cool though.

First, using micro terrain for cover. Micro terrain is anything that is just big enough to give you cover. For example, in a open feild there is not much cover but going to a prone position in a small divet in the ground will provide some cover. This is not as effective as taking cover in a colvert but still effective.

Second, Transition drills if training with multiple weapon systems is something that applies to your position. Running dry in a rifle then transitioning to your side arm. Transitioning from a scoped ranged weapon to a side arm to engadge close proximity tagets.

These are just some of the things I would train on if I had the area to do so. DC300a good luck and happy training.

Much of how you configure the range depends on the type of engagement you'd be training to anticipate. If jt's just for a fun simulation of combat, a little imagination is all you need. I like the various weapons stations idea.
