Building a Tactical Shotgun

The 870s can be picky about their ammo; sometimes jamming the action closed.

Funny, 25 years of shooting wingmasters and I've never had a problem with anything including Winchester Universal. Not one hiccup in literally thousands of rounds.

Another vote for a shotgun as simple as it was designed to be. Maybe something for a light, but other than that, simple is as simple does.

Here's how I built my fighting shotgun... Went to the gunstore and bought an H&R Pardner Protector Pump 12 gauge, 18 1/2" barrel with bead front sight. Bought some 00 and #1 buckshot loads. When I got home, I gave the shotgun a good cleaning and then installed 4 rounds of #1 Buck in the magazine, voila instant fighting shotgun!

For me, less is best in regards to a fighting shotgun. I'm using my shotgun as a civilian Claymore mine if you will. I'm using it only as the "enemy" is coming through the wire, setting off the Claymores (buckshot) to stop him before he breeches my perimeter.
If my shotgun runs dry and there's still a need for shooting, I'm not reloading it but dropping it and transitioning to my handgun and/or carbine.

It works, and it's cool. :)
