For SHTF purpose only. Home defense, natural disasters, Zombies, commies... whatever.

What ultrareliable shotgun would you get for a SHTF situation?

Model 870™ Express® Tactical

Model 887™ Nitro Mag Tactical

Model 870™ Special Purpose Marine Magnum™

Model 870™ TAC Desert Recon

Other?

Also, I find it interesting that they claim the Nitro Mag Tactical is the toughest shotgun on the planet. I would think the marine magnum gets that award. Marine magnum is plated inside and out.

every shtf thread needs a pic of this little guy!

I like the marine magnum of the ones you posted. Also because i want one.

I agree with jon86. Saying that I got an 887 in trade and like the versatility of the ability to use all major 12g shells 2 3/3,3,31/2 and The "clad" construction. It is a product improves 870. Cannot get better than that. Just wish they had incorperated a speed feed style shell carrier in the stock.

Cheers,

ts

What I find interesting is that you've been a member here this long and still post a SHTF thread...

I hadn't seen all of the linked to Remington shotguns. ... Other than the marine magnum, those all came out within the last year right?

Mines a Remington 870 HD , i replaced with a rifled sight barrel for $ 150. Overall , it cost me about $ 400 since i sold the stock beaded sight for $ 100.

My 887 is rock solid, 800 rds and flawless. As far as a SHTF weapon you need to consider trying to support you weapon when things go wrong, as in spare parts. The market is flooded with parts and accessories for the 870's, so when it all does go to hell they will be easier to "aquire" if/when needed.
AK/AR platforms are perfect examples, 90% of the parts will interchange between all the different OEM's puting your weapon will be back in action.
The faster you can back in the fight............

And the non-sequitar of the year goes to...

How exactly does not seeing those shotguns suddenly make a SHTF-themed thread acceptable?

Let's break down your scenarios:

Home defense: There are dozens upon dozens of threads about the best shotgun for this on this forum.
Natural disasters: What do you do in a natural disaster? You either stay home or bug out. If the former, see above. For the latter, a handgun or a carbine may be more appropriate. If you are stuck on a shotgun, refer back to home defense.
Zombies: This weapon of choice for Zombies is an Xbox controller.
Commies: Really? Did you like Red Dawn that much?

If you have other concerns, such as corrosion resistance, that's another topic.

Regardless, #4 is the answer to pretty much any 90% of the "what gun" questions. Almost everything else is an excuse to buy a new toy.
