Building Glock type pistol. Suggestions?

I'm going to get another plastic pistol. More actually I'm going to build a P80 Glock 19ish clone. I have decided on my next project. I'm going to order a 80% (76% or whatever) P80 pf940c frame withing the next couple days. I have always wanted to put together a handgun (really thought it'd be a 1911) just because I think it'd be neat to do it .

I decided on this particular build because of cost and the unforseen liking I've taken to my wife to be's first firearm. If you've read my post Possible new shooter and much more you know that my better half decided her first handgun is a P80 PFC9. It's a 9mm Glock 19ish pistol. Well, ever since it's been in our house i can't seem to put it down. I know it's her firearm and all that but, for a dishwasher safe framed handgun, I like how it feels in my hand. I don't know if it's the grip angle or the way the trigger guard is cut. What I do know is now I want one. So I decided I'm going to order the P80 PF940C 76% or 80% frame to start before it's not an option any more.

Any advice on things to watch out for or tips and tricks to make the process smother would be appreciated.

A couple of years ago I couldn’t legally build a p-80 frame kit here in Ca., so I bought three stripped Glock Gen-3 frames through my FFL and started there.

For the G-19 I used an Arm or Ally Bottomland camo slide, Glock OEM innards, Vickers Tactical flat trigger, Wolff springs, Tru Glo sights, Brownells TiN coated barrel and Glock magazines.

The 17 frame was tan cerakoted and the slide was an Arm or Ally desert camo slide. I used everything the same as the G-19 except the barrel (Brownells match) and the trigger/trigger bar. The OEM parts had a slow reset, so I used an Apex trigger/trigger bar assembly and all is fine.

For the G-34 I built (same frame size as the 17) I used a Lone Wolf slide and match barrel with the same innards and sights as the Glock 19. I had this done in a 5-color camo cerakote.

I didn’t get to drill out the holes or trim the plastic from the lower blanks, but the rest of the slide/ and frame assembly was as close as I could get to making a P-80 or other 80% lower Glock-pattern pistol. :)

Luckily you are able to do all the work. Good luck, and let us know how it works out.

Stay safe.

I have a P80 build that has been a lot of fun and has been extremely reliable. I've progressively added to it and switched things out over time. Built as a budget gun, It has:

P80 black frame with P80 lpk
PSA Dagger slide (sniper gray) with 1/3 co witness iron sights
Glock extended slide release
Strike Armament anti-walk pins
Vortex Venom 3 MOA red dot
PSA threaded barrel
Griffin Armament mini compensator,
Olight Baldr S with green laser (I've caught some grief over having the Olight, but gun is a budget build and the light works fine)

Here's a pic of the first gun:

My latest build is also relatively budget-friendly, but more expensive than the first. I have all the parts and just need to assemble. Component list:

Combat Armory serialized frame (black)
Glock OEM lpk with Glock extended slide release
Overwatch Precision POLY-DAT trigger
PSA Dagger SW1 RMR cut slide (has lightening cuts)
Tactical Kinetics spiral-fluted threaded barrel
1/3 co-witness iron sights
Holosun 507C with green ACSS reticle
Streamlight TLR-7A
HB Industries mini compensator or HK mini compensator (will probably use the HK)

* My best advice is to take your time. I used the simplest hand tools on my P80 frame just to see if I could do it. If I found myself getting frustrated or tired, I stopped and took a break. Other than that, I pieced my guns together slowly and nearly every component was bought during some sort of sale. Searching the gun deals website, Black Friday sales, 4th of July sales, etc. That makes quite a difference in overall price.

My best suggestion is to jut take your time since this will be your first build. While P80 builds are not hard to do, you will need to pay attention to the small details such as making sure the rails fit correctly and that all pin holes are drilled correctly. The other thing Is to make sure to use OEM Glock parts for the build. I can't over state using OEM Glock parts. Also make sure that you fully understand how a Glock works before starting the build, this will help with any trouble shooting.

I was very active on the Marine Gun Builder Forum and saw many people have issues when using aftermarket parts. 9 times out of 10 swapping out aftermarket parts for OEM parts would fix problems. This is due to tolerance stacking between the different manufacturers. And yes even factory built Glock pistols can have issues due to tolerance stacking too. The more parts from different manufacturers the bigger the issue can be.

Added note: STAY FAR AWAY FROM ROCK SLIDE USA BRAND SLIDES!!!!!!!!!!!

I just about ordered the St Paddy's Day special two Dagger frames. Then I saw that they had a Dagger and a stripped lower for $20 less and couldn't decide which to get or if I wanted a complete frame. I'm still on the fence about that one.

I like the fact that the Dagger is complete, however kinda defeats the purpose of wanting to build either of these pistols. And that is the fact I can have everything shipped right to my door. I would have liked to order a lower and a frame that kills both builds that I'd like to do. Also I had over spent on an original Jackass shoulder rig for a 1911 so blew the budget a little bit. Thank you for the advice I'll be revisiting this soon.

I posted this previously but when the pandemic 1st kicked off I called my sister up in Michigan and asked her how everything was going. SW Michigan was locked down with my 2 nephews home from college (both studying engineering) and my niece home from HS. My Brother In-law was still working (head of engineering for an auto parts company) spending 1/2 a day in the office & the other 1/2 in the factory.

My sister mentioned that she had been seeing strange people right by their house at all hours of the day and was a little freaked out by it. I asked the age old question - Do you own a gun? Nope - while they are politically conservative they have never owned firearms. I asked her if she wanted me to send her one? She said yes.

I looked through my collection of guns with the idea of someone who has no firearms training / experience. I also looked at what was available on the market. I picked up a Ruger PC Carbine and sent it via a FFL to my Sister in Michigan. I also sent 3 Polymer 80 Glock 26 kits to my 2 Nephews and Niece. I figure the men in the house are smart enough to build their own. I also sent a bunch of Glock mags and ammo.

My nephews were able to get 2 out of the 3 kits functioning reliably. I built one myself and later swapped parts out of mine to get their 3rd one working.

When I was over there that following year my brother in-law showed me his gun safe and everything stored in it. I made the comment, you know you ought to load the magazines, just in case. If someone breaks in you're not going to have time to load a magazine. He looked at me and a light bulb came on and said - that's a good idea!

Since the floodgates were open, the following year, I gave my Niece and 2 Nephews - AR15's (-plus mags, slings, ammo, cleaning kits, and bandoliers)!

I almost bit on the ar/dagger deal too but didn’t. I really don’t need either, and I just bought a project Harley Sportster. Can’t argue with a complete bike for $500, but I don’t want the wife to already be mad when I make the purchases to build that bike out how I want it.

Advice: Buy a real Glock, not an imposter-Glock.
