Interested in getting a 9x18 and narrowed it down to either a bulgarian makarov or a cz-82. Which of these would you choose based on most reliable, smoothest trigger, best function. And no I can't buy both.

I am a huge Makarov fan as I own five Maks. The Bulgarian Mak is still a great deal out there. However, Aimsurplus has CZ-82's for $229. At this price point, I would probably lean towards the CZ.

Tough choice. They are both quality, fun to shoot pistols. However, if I had to choose between mine, I would take the CZ. 'Gotta love the option of being able to carry it cocked and locked. My CZ did come from AIM and is in excellent condition.

The CZ 82 DA pull is way smoother than the Mak's, + 4 more rounds with the 82. Single stack Makarovs are thinner, the Mak is a simpler design, less parts less things to go wrong ? But a three foot chain is as strong as a four ft chain, and as that old saying goes a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.

A question, if I may: I handled 2 diferent CZ-82s from 2 different dealers at a gunshow yesterday. Neither had the magazine in the gun and neither would work DA. Triggers on both dropped the hammer from single action. Was something wrong with these guns? Both dealers were extremely busy so I didn't hang out to ask, since both guns exhibited more holster wear than I wanted to allow for purchase.

BTW, I have 3 Maks (2 Bulgies and 1 East German) and like them all very much. Best money I ever paid on a gun.

I own Bulgy and I own 2 CZ 82 all in Mak.9x18
Cz has smoother lighter trigger then Bulgy, altho after doing trigger job on my Bulgy they are about =.
As mentioned by previous poster, 4 more rounds in CZ.
Points very natural and shoots extremely well.
More of a modern gun then Bulgy.
Better mag release then Bulgy.
Finish is not blue, but rather almost like paint like.
Bought both from Aim paid extra 10 for hand pick.
1 is in so LNIB perfect, I just put it away.
Pictured is my shooter , still in very excelllent shape.
CZ 83 grips put on the CZ 82 from CZ USA. Don't buy! These cracked first time at range, imported from Czech., wood is very dry, I used linseed many coats hoping it would help, but alas at the range before 50 rounds it totally cracked.

Cliff, Have to ask. Is this for CCW, house gun,fun gun or what? Have the Bulgie Mak version and it has a nice trigger pull and is accurate. However that can be said of the CZ82 of a lot of examples. Then there is the CZ83 which is slightly better than the CZ82, but not by much. Both are well built and functional pistols. If for CCW, I would recommend the Makarov because of size making it easier to hide and carry. If otherwise, then go with the CZ. There are a few holsters for CCW carry for the CZ,but might be hard to find. Good luck on your choice.

Are all CZ-82s painted, or are some blued? [I recall JGSales advertising theirs as blued] Thanks.
