What is a good brand of bulk 9mm for target/practice?

There's WWB but I heard it was really dirty. (Will the dirt damage the gun or is it just an issue of being a ***** to clean?)

There's Wolf but it is steel cased and can potential scratch the bore and chamber.

Preferably a brand I can get at the local Cabelas, Dicks, Gander, Walmart if that's the case, etc...because I'm too impatient to wait for shipping.

What is a reasonable price ,cent per round or $ per 50/100 rd box these days?

Any and all input is welcomed and appreciated, thanks in advance.

I usually shoot WWB ($20/100 rnds) or Blazer brass ($9/50). Depends whats available.

WalMart WWB is the best buy out there, if you can find it. Don't worry about the dirt/filth. It won't hurt the gun.

I generally clean my handguns about every 1000 rounds. I shoot a lot of WWB.

Wow . . let me know where you can get WWB at those prices anymore.

Quick question:

I see there are 2 version of the CCI Blazers, brass and aluminum.

The aluminum is cheaper than the brass but they're both cheaper then WWB.

Which is preferable, the brass or aluminum?

On another note:

I probably won't chance it but I've heard steel case ammo such as Wolf can potentially harm your gun yet I've also heard that the steel used in ammo casing is "mild" steel and is much softer than the steel in our guns therefore no need to worry. The reason I ask is because Wolf is cheaper and the BoxOTruth tested the three major bulk ammo brands (I believe in 9mm) and Wolf came out on top in accuracy.

Any thoughts and/or opinions on the matter is welcomed and appreciated?

My local Wal-Mart has been getting the CCI Blazer Brass - $8.97 / 50! Cheaper than the Blazer aluminum. WWB is $20.97 / 100 rds at me local Wal-Mart. I have been finding them frequently at my 3 local WM's :)

I would shoot the aluminum or steel cased ammo, but would prefer the brass. Life is too short to put up with a firearm that is picky. It can become a game of economics when pricing ammo.

Score!!!

I remembered to call Walmart very early today about 9mm ammo. Bingo! The manager was just putting out the ammo the store received the night before. So, after repeated attempts, I finally scored several boxes of the 100-count WWBs and the 50-count Blazer Brass for range use.

I have used a lot of WWB and American Eagle lately. Not because I prefer them, but because that is what I could get a hold of.

I like both of them.

I also like Magtech & Blazer when I can get them.

Wow....so far around here, the cheapest thing I can find is $20 for 50 rounds of Wolf. Pathetic.

With the current ammo shortage, pretty much anything that goes bang is ok for the range.

As mentioned above, WWB at Wally is the best buy if you can find it.

Other brands I've had good luck with are : American Eagle, PMC, Fiocchi, Independence, Magtech and Remington UMC.

BTW, hopefully ammo supplies with start to increase soon. :(

I bought 1K rnds of Sellier & Bellot, and have been quite pleased with it. Brass cased, cheap, and very clean & consistent. Cabelas usually has it (at least they did last time I was there....) for just a bit more than I paid from Natchez (or was it Wideners.....?) Of course, I bought it about 4 months ago, but I only paid about 30 cents a round.

All I have been able to get is Fiocchi Cones to shoot as it is all my range has. It is not bad- clean and loads great.

If you have Academy Sports in your area, try them. They carry a brand called "Monarch" that is great range ammo.

In Houston, the Academy on I-10 between 610 and BW-8 as you are headed east towards Beaumont has Monarch in 38 special, 357 mag (also WWB in 357 mag), and 9mm. They also have quite a few Remington 250 round packs of 45 ACP.

I'm visiting relatives in Indiana right now and checked out a Wally and Meijers to see if the supply is as bad as Florida. Pretty much. I did fine some WWB 9mm for $16.97/50 at Wally. I load my own now but have shot a lot of the WWb. I like it.

I usually use WWB when I can find it, which hasn't happened in a few months here. Usually I buy whatever the cheapest ammo I can find with 3 caveats:

1) has to be new ammo from a name brand
2) Brass case (no steel or aluminum)
3) I buy American if at all possible

I've yet to have an issue with any ammo in my centerfire pistols (Glock 34, Glock 26, Beretta 92/96, Springfield 1911). The only ammo issue I've ever had was with Black Hills .32 in a single six revovler that the bases seemed out of spec and would bind up the cylinder.

Since around '95, I have put at least 7K rounds of Wolf (black box) 9mm through my Glock 19 and I can only remember 1 problem, hammer hit the primer and did not fire. The primer was indented, so it was a problem with the round. Ive put at least 5K rounds of Wolf (again, black box) through my AK, never a single problem. Ive put Blazer, WWB, S&B and various reloads through my Glock and the only issues I have had were from reloads. At least a dozen, so I no longer use reloads in my Glock.

I cant find the site that tested it, but like you said, the steel cases are MUCH softer than your extractor. In the case my extractor does break, its a $20 part. Ive more than made up the savings by using Wolf. If it concerns you, you could replace your extractor every 1K rounds for the savings you get over "big 3". As far as the AK, Ive never even considered having to replace the extractor - Im sure it will outlast me.

I always clean after shooting and havnt noticed any "lacquer" build up from the Wolf. No noticable barrel wear on the throat either. I have heard ARs have trouble w/ Wolf, most likely due to the tighter tolerences of the firearm.

Accuracy - Wolf is at least as accurate as the "big 3". I have noticed the occasional flyer, but I have noticed that with all of them.
