My CZ 527. .223 shoots Sierra 69 BTHP to 1/2" or less groups. It has a 1/9 twist. Is a 75 gr. Hornady or 77 gr. Sierra shootable in this rifle or are they too heavy?

Thanks.

Pete

If you are handloading this should be doable, especially with a heavy powder charge, but buy a small amount first and start working up your load.

This assumes you have a 20-24" barrel too, velocity makes a difference.

1/8 twist gives much better results with those bullet weights.

Your results with 69gr. SMK are very nice, what are you trying to do?

NM Shooter:

I suppose I'm the poor man's benchrest shooter. I'm a paper shooter only and just enjoy loading my own to make a purse out of the sow's ear. I use good brass and benchrest loading and shooting techniques to get the best I can. Interestingly, the next best round this gun shoots is a 40 Gr. Sierra with a hot load of H335.

Good results with 40 gr. bullets out of a 1/9? Definitely interesting, I do not shoot anything lighter than 55 gr. stuff myself, too many folks told me I would get bad results.

The heavy bullets out of that twist rate seem to function better the faster you push them, and since I shoot an AR-15 I can only go so far. Longer barrels do help here.

Any rifle you can get MOA or better out of is a good one.:D
