I have some large 1040 grain .73 caliber bullets a fellow has been casting for me which I would like to lube. I personally don't feel alox spray is adequate.

I've been reading, and it appears a sizing die is typically used to slice any excess lube off the bullets.

But what if I don't have a sizing die for these bullets, is there a method or some sort of setup which could lube the grooves effectively on these large bullets?

Black powder muzzle loader or old Elephant gun? There are specific lubes for black powder.

Yup, dead simple.

Find an old can with a flat bottom .alot of times you can find a fruit can or cat food can or something along that line. The flatter the better. The ideal thing is to get a can that will be almost completely full when you stand all your bullets in it side by side.

Melt your lube and pour it into the can.

The next bit is just finding an old casing, or piece of pipe or ? that is slightly larger (maybe .002) than the bullets and cut them out like a cookie cutter after the lube had hardened. Some people don't even need to cookie cutter them and can just push them out with their fingers. (softer lubes I'm guessing). If you do use an old casing then I've found I had the best luck by drilling out the back big enough to fit a wooden dowel in to push them back out.

FWIW.

Have a good one,
Dave
