sizing factory lubed bullets

so after a lot of experamenting and online orders i have learned two things: 1) for my 30-30 i need a .311 diamater lead bullet. 2) i like missouri bullet's prices and fast shipping.

the only problem is that they do not sell anything in a .311 diamater. they do have a bullet for the 32-20 that is a .313, so i thought about getting these and resizing them with a lee resizing die. i have read that cast bullets need to be lubed both before and after sizing and all i hear about (especially with lubing before sizing) is using lee liquid alox. i have no experience with lubign cast bullets but i watched a couple youtube videos and it looked like the alox didnt fill up the lube grooves like the factory lube does.

this got me to wondering about sizing the missouri bullets with the factory lube. would i need to give them a coating of alox before running them through the sizer, or will they be fine with just the factory lube? also, will the factory lube be in tact after sizing of will i need to relube?

i apologize in advance if these are obvious or dumb questions but i have been unable to find any specific answers and i am pretty new to this.

You can lube every third or fourth bullet with case lube, as far as that goes. You could probably also shoot those .313" bullets through your .30-30 without causing any problems.

The factory lube will still be intact after you size the bullets, should you choose to do so. You're probably going to have a great deal of difficulty finding commercial .311" diameter bullets in a weight appropriate for general usage in your .30-30. The solution is to start casting your own bullets.

ultimately i think that it would be fun to start casting. ive done it once or twice with a friend's equipment for a muzzleloader and it was fun. unfortunately its just not in the cards right now. i know that i will be moving a couple times in the next 2 or 3 years and the less i have to haul with me the better.

nicholst55: you mention using case lube on some of the bullets. i have some of the lee case sizing lube (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=482023). if this is the kind of stuff you're talking about then that would be great! ive already got some on hand.

no, your questions aren't dumb at all...show intelligence, instead.

get the .311 lee sizer kit, tumble-lube your bullets with the liquid alox, let 'em dry and run 'em thru the sizer. the original lube will be fine.

i find casting a very satisfying pastime...if you're really interested, i'd follow http://castboolits.gunloads.com/ or http://www.go2gbo.com/forums/index.php/board,45.0.html for a while.

Call your bullet mfg and see if they can accomodate your .311 request.

We'll be happy to size them to .311 for you. We just need to know that's what you want.

That bullet, sized by MB to .311, shoots spookily well out of my Marlin 336 .30-30. I used Unique with published load data and found it to be a very enjoyable plinking load. Just don't over-crimp and bump the shoulder down - it won't chamber. I found out the hard way.

I often buy 38 bullets and resize them, as you described, for 9mm, without any additional lube.

wow! thats excellent! i made my first order and they were .309 as advertised but just not what my gun liked. after looking threw your site for a while i had a feeling that i was going to be placing another order in the near future (prices are just way too good to pass up!). expect to be seeing my next order in the (hopefully) very near future!
