Bullet Proof Vest

You saying that anyone wearing one that isn't required to wear one "has a screw loose" is akin to an anti-gunner saying anyone carrying a gun is just "looking for trouble". That's my point.

As for bullet resistant vests being uncomfortable, I didn't find that to be the case with the various IIIa vests I've worn over the years. Proper sizing matters. ;)

Also, there was just a report on the local news about an officer being in the hospital after being stabbed 3 times; once in the neck, once in the kidney, and possibly the face. The perp is also in the hospital after being shot by another officer.

Where in that article does it say that the knife penetrated the officer's kidney? He could easily have been hospitalized for the wounds to his neck and face.

The report on the evening news mentioned the various injuries, including one to an arm, not mentioned in the on-line article.

Besides, it says "stabbed in the back", not an attempted stab to the back.
And I can't think of a good reason to mention "stabbed 3 times" if the only injury was to his neck and his vest.

If he was stabbed in the back, but the vest stopped it from penetrating his body, that doesn't make it an "attempted" stabbing - the same way that if I was wearing a bullet-resistant vest and someone shot me, but the bullet didn't penetrate, the person still shot me.

And I can't think of a good reason to mention "stabbed 3 times" if the only injury was to his neck and his vest.

See above.

...And every officer I ever worked with bitched about his or her vest at some point or the other, and a few even kept 'em in the trunk until the Sheriff ordered otherwise.

Anyway... we're far enough off-topic that we've probably doomed this thread. All I had in mind was to warn TNboy not to depend on a ballistic vest to stop a knife.

I've done that, so the rest of y'all can carry on and believe as you please.
