Could anyone recommend a "REAL" company that sells actual vest I am interested in learning more about these due to the fact I changed jobs and am now working for a local security company. I am looking for something along the lines of tactical in other words something that protects my front, back, as well as sides. I am working nights so as long as the vest is able to be worn in a truck and latter on patrol it should be alright.

Thanks

I wore a conceable vest for years with two armored trucking companies, and occaisionally wear one here when the situation calls for one.
1) First things first - get properly measured by a police supply retailer. An improperly fitted vest is a nightmare.
2) You don't need a outside the shirt tactical vest, NOTHING that screams "shoot me in the head!" You WANT to get shot in the vest, if you can't accomplished Goal Number One, which is "Don't get shot at all!" So concealable is required. A tactical style vest also makes you look like a mall ninja. :)
3) Is it legal in your area? Some states/locales have really goofy laws.
4) Does your employer have a program to assist? Try that, too.

Buy an outside the shirt one that matches your work shirt.

Or wear bigger work shirts.

Looking like a mall ninja is forgivable when you survive the encounter.

^^^^
a concealable vest is light, cost more, and gives up protection
A Assault vest, well, you ain't hiding that under a shirt

I would suggest you talk to your new boss, they may have a supplier or a discount purchasing setup.

Do you think you will actually be needing a vest?

Does it make more or less sense than carrying a concealed weapon? I mean, do you actually think you'll need it?

I don't know if they sell to non-LEO's, but Second Chance makes a pretty good vest. We were issued those when I was serving as an officer. As an above poster mentioned, talk to your supervisor. You don't want to spend the money on a tactical vest only to be told that it covers your uniform (assuming you wear a uniform) and then be stuck with it.

A few other considerations about vests.... The first is that depending on where you are and the time of year, a vest is a pain to wear daily (and some will never wear them, they're just too uncomfortable). In my career in law enforcement I always wore mine on duty without exception (my first was a Second Chance that I purchased, my later vests were issued by my department and made by Point Blank) even in the summer in south Florida. To put it mildly they're hot, uncomfortable, and will make you need a deodorant....

Now for the last item to consider. No such thing as a vest that keeps you completely safe. High power (rifles mostly) rounds will go right through most vests... and there are far too many places where you're vulnerable. I'm personally familiar with more than a few cops in my era (1973 to 1995) that were killed on the job while wearing a vest. Yes, they'll do the job they're designed for but the reality is that they're only part of the answer to operating safely in places where someone might take a shot at you.... Good luck.

i worked for a company called CIS here based from Clearwater, we were all armed officers and were issued vests, no security company I know is gonna allow a military or SWAT style assault vest for a regular officer, you need a regular IIIa concealable vest as worn by police all over the US under their uniform shirts
