I have a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser from 1904 in very good as issued condition. I haven't hand loaded for it so thought I would ask if there is a preferred bullet weight and shape for the cartridge. This would be strictly for paper punching, bench rest up to 300 yards. Thanks.

Twist rate on those is 1:7.87. Pre 1941 they were loaded with a 156 grain bullet and post a 140 grain.

In theory the twist rate is a bit slow for smaller bullets but the 129 or 130 grain bullets may be just fine.

In the 140 grain try Reloader 22 and H4350 or Reloader 19 for the lighter pills. At least that is what has worked best for me.

For shape the original 140s were spritzers. The round nose bullets look cool but are hard to find.

My Swede likes the 140 gr. Nosler custom competition with a 41 gr load of IMR4831

Been awhile but I had my best results using Sierra Match 142 grain HPBT bullets over about 37.5 grains of IMR-4895. That was a target load. I was also loading Norma brass at the time.
