Bump in the night loadout?

Valid question, but I would suggest the first step is to make sure they don't get inside to begin with.

You don't need to make your home a literal fortress, but there are many things that are both pleasing to the eye and provide deterrence.

Bump in the night? Grab the 9mm with hi cap mag while only wearing briefs. Nothing else needed. Make to the other end of the house for 12ga auto 5 w/ #1 buck shot. Now there is nothing else needed at all.

Hmmmm ... bump in the night. Been there; done that.

Wife: gun of choice, smartphone, two flashlights.
Me: gun of choice, cell phone, telephone, flashlight.
Other gear: skivvies and T-shirts

Doors and windows hardened, doors have Nightlock barricades and doorknob jammers, windows have blast film, alarm active, motion detectors active (inside and outside) and we have a safe room to retreat into.

It ain't perfect, but it's home.

Grab your gun, call the cops, wait for the cavalry; no need for multiple mags, phone, light and pepper spray. You only have two hands - gun and phone come first

My info probably isnt of much use. For me, its much more likely to be an animal making bumps in the night than a person. My loadout is a flashlight and pistol, whatever is on the table by the bed. If I think theres a skunk around, I put my slippers or jap flaps on, and grab the 92 Browning by the door with the light mounted. Bears (G type) are possible, but not likely. Theres a 45-70 by the bed.

Most people that come by call out to the house or honk their horn. The yard has a 6' board fence all the way around and no gate latch on the outside. The dog is usually out unless its sleeping time. She makes noise if anyone comes around, friend or foe. She thinks theyre there to see her and makes happy noises. Anyone coming in the house would be pretty obvious, its one room. It would take breaking a window or a sledge hammer and some time for the door. I live way the heck out of town. A few neighbors, but none real close.

Tool belt.

Loops, clips and pouches for light, magazines, cell phone, impact weapon, knife, whatever you decide you need to have on your person. The pistol itself can even be kept in the large pouch or a holster put on the belt. And it's not scary tactical, everybody has seen their dad or grandpa wear one.

Snap it on over your skivvies and post up between the threat and your family. Go looking only in direst need.

My perfect scenario is to never be broken into. Second best is they come when my kids are upstairs in their rooms. I simply use my own bedroom door as concealment while covering the stairs to prevent anyone from getting to my kids. All the crap in the other end of the house can be replaced.

Excellent.

I like it. :D

Thinking further, I've used the tanker type holster for the Smith 29, and a double speed loader carrier (split 6 type) over the rear strap. Have also used a lanyard snapped onto a glock for night time forays. Both work without further wardrobe enhancement. Flashlight was in hand or clipped over a strap on the holster.
