Well, I guess it was bound to happen eventually. I had my first Burris scope go bad. Broke the crosshairs in a Burris 2X Handgun Scope with Posi-Lock. It was strapped on (with 3 rings no less) to my 460 shooting Hornady factory loads. I called Burris and, of course, they said just send it back. When I tried to engage them in a little repartee on whether I was asking too much of this model, the gentleman on the other end scoffed and said, "We've put 'en on bigger than that." I guess I'll stick with that scope unless someone can give me a thought to do otherwise. I was dinging the target at 200 yards pretty well until the wheels came off.

I would chalk it up to "stuff" happens.

I've been using a 2X Burris on a SRH, in .480R, and also on a scout rifle chambered in 7.62x54R. Round count is well over 400, with the 480, and at least 200 with 7.62. No issues.

That's what he said!!

I agree, Steelhead. Having never had anything but good luck with Burris scopes, off it goes to Colorado tomorrow.

I've never fired a 480 Ruger. How's the recoil and muzzle flash? By chance have you shot a 460? If so how do you think the two cartidges compare? I really like the 460's accuracy. The only low end projectile I have found for reloading close to factory specs is a Barnes X bullet in 220 gr., I think. I wanted this revolver for its terminal energy out there at about 225 yds. without shooting a rainbow trajectory. At about 2200 fps at the muzzle with a 200 gr. bullet, it fits the bill for a special application I have.

480 Ruger

Based on 325 gr and 400 gr hard cast lead bullets at 1325 fps and 1100 fps I'd say the 480 kicks about the same as my 44 mag with stiff loads.

The muzzle flash with the Hornady 325s is minimal but the HSM 400s put on a great light show with bright orange flames. I'm going to try to get a photo of the muzzle flash next week.
