Hi i wanted to get some of you opinions on the XTR rings from Burris. I really like the way they look and also wanted to see what height i should get for clearance of a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50 mounted on a Rem 700 sps varmint? Thanks

What base are you going to use with the XTR rings? You should be okay with medium rings, and you may get away with low (just barely though) depending on the base you put on your 700. I have the low XTRs on a Howa 1500 with EGW 20MOA base and the 4200 6-24x50. It just barely clears with Butler Creek caps.

How do you like the rings? Do they leave any marks on the scope and did you have to make any adjustments to the rings to get a good fit? Thanks

Mine were good to go out of the box. I haven't removed the scope from them, but there were no marks left while tweaking the position for eye relief.

Thanks. Anyone else care to give there experience with these rings?

Spook,
I think they have so much surface area they don't mark scopes, at least mine have not. The 6 bolts don't take very much torque to lock a scope in tight.
I can remove scope from rifle and it will return to zero. On mine I was able to use them as is as far as the ring portion. On 1 set the clamp bolt that hits the base was off. I had to reindex it by pushing it out with an arbor press, realign and repress. It may have worked as is, but was an easy fix for me. I didn't even call to return them.
The Burris XTR with the EGW pic rail is an awesome setup for the money. Neither have given a hint of trouble in service.

The rings are so wide, you might loose some adjustment of your scope. Other that that, I personally had no problems with the set I used.

No, mine haven't lost zero and that includes taking a cross country trip inside a Storm case. The picture below will show how much fore and aft adjustment room you will have for eye relief with that scope and rings. Combined with the pic rail, you sould be okay.

G2, what rail are you using? Also anyone else have a suggestion for a 20 moa rail? Should i look for one which is steel?

Yeah....On a railed rifle, you should be able to get good asdjustment. I could have used a bit more on my AR15, however.

I use the EGW 20MOA rail on my bolt actions.

For an AR, I agree that you definitely can use more adjustment. The Burris PEPR is what I normally use and it's less than $100, and the Nikon M223 is also a good AR mount and has a built in cant.
