hello,
i just need an answer to something that has been occuring at my high school. on the way home from the high school(I am only the second one off), I heard a lot of students sounding like they know everything about firearms. now, i know a lot more about firearms than any of them do. But, what im trying to ask is that should i jump in and point out how they are wrong or should i let call of duty show "how much" they know about guns?

I sort of know what your'e talking about, similar things have happened to me in school and my advice would be to just let it go unless they ask you. I don't know where you are but in NY being a legitimate gun enthusiast, not a COD fanboy (come on people, its not even that good of a game. Be a battlefield fanboy instead :neener:) isn't looked on too positively, especially in school. You could get the "gun nut" label which some people may not mind but you definitely don't want it in school.

also, i live in IL. worst state ever! i hope no one has to experience our terrible gun laws. also, i feel pretty embarrased that we are the last state that doesnt have concealed carry. even California has concealed carry!

pretty much the only time you should butt-in on a conversation uninvited, is if the information being given is likely to either get someone killed, seriously injured, or arrested.

Rode a Bus?? Heck When I was young I walked uphill both ways.........yada yada yada

I doubt it would make a difference.. However, just tell them they are suffering from the Dunning Kruger Effect.

I have two daughters in high school, both shoot, hunt and archery. Rule number one (since they were in grade school) is not to talk about hunting, guns or shooting on the bus or at school. Too many people out there (about 80% here in Minnesota) that do not understand what shooting and hunting is all about. I even tell them to leave out anything to do with hunting or shooting when asked what they did on Christmas vacation or over thanksgiving break. I agree with Konstantin85 that getting a label in school is too easy an should be avoided. By the way the other 20% is 10% pro gun and 10% anti gun.

Regardless of the topic, people tend to dislike both know-it-alls and those who insert themselves in the conversations of others. Beyond that, people don't like to be told they are wrong, particularly in front of others.

When confronted with that kind of situation, it's best just to turn your attention elsewhere.

first of all, i dont play video games(biggest waste of money ever invented). second of all, i will just keep ignoring and wait until i am asked something. thanks for your input, i really appreciate it.
Why hate on video games? Hating on CoD is one thing, but hating on an entire artistic medium? That's just bigoted.

I have to commend the OP for their question. He (or she) seems very smart to even be able to ask the question (my compliments to you!) and by doing so I think you know your own answer.

Go with your gut, (shut up) and don't even bother.

You won't gain anything from it and you might get labeled as a gun nut and then that could back fire on you some where down the line.

Good Post!

To the OP. You have to fit in at school or you will be the target by just being different. Better to be silent for now and know that you are correct. This will keep you from becoming the target of the "in" group because you are not going along with the misinformation/bragging. When it counts you will know the real deal and can offer help to those that will actually benefit from your knowledge. You are already further ahead in life than those that you are observing.:)

It sounds like you might benefit most by not participating in their games. You can always listen and take mental notes on who the dumb and dumbers are. You can never take back anything you say that might show your hand. Trust in keeping your mouth shut until the right time. You can do it kiddo.

I think most of us on here are going to agree that you should let it slide unless you hear something that could pose a risk to somebody's health, then you are morally obliged to say something IMHO, but i understand what you are hearing i have worked at a gun shop for almost four years now (starting back when i was in high school) and over that time made some very knowledgeable friends in the gun industry and learned alot about firearm responsibility and ownership.

Sometimes when im at work people come in rambling on about this gun and that and if there is a valid opportunity or i hear something that is WAY out there i try to correct them but for the most part i just keep my mouth shut and let it go. Its bad when you got people asking to see the " Tec 9" and its a Glock or 22 pistol.... oh yea and how every gun that has a 30 round mag is automatically a "m-16".....lol

Best advice i can give is let them waste their time on video games, you continue to ask questions, read about, and handle guns to get your information.

I have no hatred for Call Of Duty, Halo, Rainbow Six, or Gears Of War. I am a big time gamer and most of the time, I don't mind people talking about the game guns. It only gets vexing when you have people with barely any knowledge who try to go tactical. I personally would try to correct them, although if you want to have some quality entertainment on the way home, don't educate them.

P.S.: Asking for certain guns at stores has gotten me mockery because I get lumped in with mall ninjas.

I let myself be known as a gun nut. The only person I know how to be is myself. I got in trouble with it in high school, and a few kids went and told the resource officer that I was going to come in and shoot the place up...

As pissed off as I was, I never rose my voice at the resource officer, nor did I cause problems with the students or teachers over it. The suspicion quickly went away and I was back to being myself.

lj-mosin-freak, that was me in junior high, although it never escalated into that. it started to annoy me when they would call me a hunter and i wanted to beat them. thankfully theyre all going to the rich schools, seems to explain that..
