What is he supposed to do? Wear a hair-shirt and flagellate himself? There's already an entire system set up for emergency relief, he would just get in the way trying to "coordinate" everything.

What exactly did you do yesterday? Fast, drink dirty water, and sit in a mud and carrion filled kiddie pool in your backyard to demonstrate solidarity with the hurricane victims? Did you stay home from work so you wouldn't have to "waste fuel" going to work during this "oil crisis"?

Middy......you da man !!!!!.......you obviously have grasped the concept "Take care of people now, throw stones later."...its a shame others can't quite gasp the concept... some of these would be the same folks who in a similar disaster circumstance would no doubt "hole up" in their well stocked survival dens, and the thought of helping neighbors in need would be off the radar screen ! As my daddy said....."there are those that carp and complain....nothing's ever right or enough......then there are those quietly tend to the problems at hand and get 'er done !"
