I am about to buy my first handgun, a 1911. I found a Series I Kimber in a local shop that "spoke to me," but it has a bushingless barrel. I don't care about that but I heard it might eliminate me from some shooting competitions. I of course know nothing about competition shooting, but this will be my only handgun for a few years at least and I have a feeling I may be getting involved at a local range. Thanks for any info.

What barrel length?
IDPA does not allow 1911 derivatives with bushingless barrels UNLESS they are shorter than 4.2". USPSA/IPSC doesn't care. I don't think NRA cares except for Service Pistol.

It is a pro carry, and I think the barrel length is 4" or 4.1"--something like that. I guess I can't help but buy the dang thing now. I wasn't even looking for a 1911.
