I've got a chance to buy a Bushmaster right now. I had been thinking about getting a RRA or maybe even and LMT. How do bushmasters compare with RRA and LMT in terms of quality? Here's the description that he's given me over e-mail:

Bushmaster M4 Carbine with A2 sight, 16" barrel, phantom flash suppresor, collapsible stock, aluminum rail type handguard, single point sling attachment, 3 30rd magpul pmags, virticle foregrip, extra ace stock, extra M4 handguards. I spent well over $1,200 for the stuff on the rifle, and I am including all my extra stuff worth about $200.

No pics yet though. He's local, so I'd be buying from him face to face. He wants $950 for everything.

Deal or no deal? Sounds pretty good to me but this would be my first AR, so what do I know? I'd love to hear some input.

Do you need the extra handguards and extra ace stock?

Looks at what the rifle is worth new, and decide how much it is worth to you used, then add a few bux for any accessories you actually want. I wouldn't include the stuff you don't want. Decide what stock you like and what handguard (if they are not the same) and ask him for a price on that. Really, why pay for something you don't want or even need.

Cannot judge the price of Bushmasters based on their MSRP, they are very often discounted in the stores. Partly because there prices are high for starters compared to some. Example, I just picked up a 16" E2 (A1 Upper, AK compensator) for $800 new and he threw in a few mags and A1 sight tool. The M4's were going for $929 and I was told that they would do "a little better" with the price. My point is don't worry what he paid for it, you can buy new for around $900, to your specs for $1000. If he comes across with a price lower than $900 for everything I would start thinking about it. Otherwise you could buy new the way you want it. Buy the way the Bushmaster is a great rifle, it's price has not been as competitive but the gun's are built and finished very well.
