I am not sure if this has been done before, sorry if it has…..

I was at bushmaster’s website awhile ago and was looking one of their competition rifles. I was reading the specs and noticed that it was not Stainless or chrome lined but rather it was moly. RRA and Armaluite match rifles only come in stainless. I know that bushmaster also offers an SS barrel on some of their match rifles but why do they offer one in moly? I know about barrel life and the ease of cleaning of the different barrels, but what about accuracy?

So I propose the question, are stainless barrels more accurate than chromemoly?

I'm no expert on barrels, but the last information that I came across from over at the M14 forums is that crome moly steel barrels generally degrade in accuracy over time and that stainless barrels hold their accuracy longer, but suffer a rapid degradation in accuracy at the end of the barrel life.

I would venture to say the same applies to the AR barrels. Of course, good practices like not using your barrel for a bullet hose should definitely extend barrel life.
