The DPMS LRT-SASS 18 inch barrel appears to be blued, which means it is chrome-moly... but it cannot be touched up/blued with SuperBlue solution, which means it is not carbon steel. DPMS website says it is stainless 416, but some other websites that sell SASS say that it is 4140 chome-moly steel. I am very confused. Does anyone know for sure? The finish on the blue definitely resembles bluing not baked-on finished.

???

Just because it looks blue doesn't necessarily mean it is. 416 SS can be made blackened. Just call DPMS and find out from the horse's mouth.
I know Oly Arms ARs have a lot of their barrels in blackened 416SS.

I am really hoping that it is chrome moly... although all match grade barrels are now stainless because they can be lapped easily... All 416 stainless knives simply do not hold their edges long enough in comparison to carbon steel knives... I extrapolate the same to barrels...
