I have my eye on a used Bushmaster ORC. I understand it's basically a DPMS with different markings on it.

Can I buy with confidence or am I really missing the reliability I want if I don't go with something like a LMT MWS?

I just dont want to spend $1000 only to regret it.

I do hear Colt has a 308 AR-10 coming out that sounds interesting. Who knows when it will actually show up though.

They are a great gun if you are really wanting to use optics all the time. It will be reliable and a very good gun for you if you really will never use iron sights. Really just depends on your needs and wants more than anything. So to answer the question it will be a "decent" gun for you.

Sorry, I'm talking .308 not 5.56. I'm all over BCM for my 5.56 needs.

My limited experience is showing that DPMS LR-308 platform rifles are built far better than their AR-15 platform rifles.

ETA: If you do have to upgrade later the DPMS LR platform rifles are compatible with JP & Knights parts. Some LMT parts are also compatible, and they'll take .308 PMAGs as well. I think the DPMS LR-308 (or the Bushmasters & Remingtons that are rebadged DPMS) are the best option in the low price .308 based ARs.

If you want a short-barreled .308, the ORC looks to be one of the best deals going. Unlike the DPMS carbines, it has a chrome lined barrel and is actually nice and light weight (DPMS has some lightweight carbines too, but many of them have big fat HBAR barrels on them). If they made one with a 20" barrel for the same price I'd probably be all over it.

I'm new to ARs and just bought the DPMS Panther Tac20 (.308). It has the 20" barrel and not chromed lined. That rally doesn't bother me as I'm not shooting auto and am very comfortable with a standard barrel.

I've had no issues with any aspect of the rifle - great fit, no jams with my reloads even, and a great caliber to shoot. I'll start testing the whole optics thing in a month or so.

Good luck on your choice.

bar-308 qustion?

I have a Bushmaster bar-308 stamped 3 seial number gun. I belive that RR now makes them becuse it takes FAL mags. My qustion is should, I hold on to this gun. Is it anything special? I want to paint it camo but don't want to mess up a collectable gun.

Any help would be nice. Also can anyone tell me why BM stopped making them and now make the ones they do now.

you should start a new thread with your questions, better results

Dpms 308

DPMS makes all the 308's whether it has Remington or Bushmaster label. Bushmaster makes all the .223's Freedom Group owns them all and other brands. I have the Rem. 308 it shoots great, since I added the single stage JP trigger.
