Bushmaster

Not sure if this is the answer you want but I was at Gander Mountain this weekend and saw Bushmaster M4 config with the light barrel (don't know model number) and they were priced at $1099. They had S&W M&P M4s for $1094. They had these in stock!

For this climate those don't seem like bad prices. Hope that helps!

I recall them going for around $900-950, but that was before the Obama craze.

True. Unfortunately, the market goes with supply and demand. Demand is high, supply is, relatively speaking, low.

Still, it bugs me that a rifle that was $900.00 in October is $1200.00 bucks in January....

our shop has yet to put a premium price on any single piece of merchandise...and if i have my way, we wont ever. i personally wouldnt spend my money at a scalp shop, so i refuse to run one.

While that's true, I doubt that at the present margin any gun shops are making as much margin as a vast majority of retailers do (remember most retailers need 24-40% just to cover operating cost). The fact of the matter is the margins in the gun business are really lousy (I use to rep for a distributor). So those extra dollars will probably keep a few more of those guys in business in this otherwise crappy economy. I wish I was back in the business. :)

Pre-Obama $800-$950 depending on how good or bad a deal you were getting.

Post-Obama $1100-1300 depending on how good or bad a deal you are getting.

$1200 sounds fair in the current market.

Who said anything about a premium price? Like expvideo said, $1200 seems to be about the fair price in todays market. Market prices change. Raising a price doesn't make a shop a "scalp shop" it just means they are adjusting exactly how they should.
