Good news for the people in this iron state. Although it is top-loading, lost one important feature that the rest of us could enjoy, but at least it is an AR-15 available in Cali again, and with flash-hider, bayonet lag, and retractable telestock , and I have no doubt its quality is better than the Kal-Tec SU-16. Just curious there is no any excitement from you Cali guys:confused:
 
I wonder if you can use it with strippers? That would be handy.

more seriously, the rifle seems like an interesting approach to satisfying weird rules. real question is, how does it shoot...
 
Although I am somewhat glad to see that Bushmaster (a big time assembler of AR-type rifles) is still alive and kicking in the California firearms market. This concept isn't a new one. The FAB-10 has been doing this for at least four years and that could be why the Cali-crowd isn't all too wound up about it.

Also, the Carbon-15's track record supposedly isn't all that great, but to me that's just hearsay as I have never used one myself.

I do like the fact that it has a functional bolt catch unlike the FAB-10.

Me and my friend went to look at one during the weekend, since he was looking for one.

If you handle a Carbon15 before, you'd know what it feels like.

I like it and was hoping that my friend would buy it. $1000 is a bit too steep for his taste and it feels more like a toy. It was a no-go.

If I will get a 223, I would get either Mini-14, or SU-16.

I agree that a Carbon AR feels not as good as a alum. one, but again the SU-16 is also mainly plastic. Maybe the price is a little deep.:p but come on, it is an AR, even is a butchered one,:( and I believe its quality should be better than the Kel-Tec, plus many cool featuers.:)

Personally, I handled a Kel-Tec SU-16 (version A) and hardly found I like it, maybe it is improved in version B, C, and CA? I do admit I didn't handle a Carbon AR before.;)
 
There's also another manufacturer doing something similar. Vulcan, I think.

Though it's good to see that I could get a Bushmaster.

Why not just make a regular CA-legal AR lower receiver, though?

The AR is a bulky, unwieldy design. Who cares if it's lighter when I can have it more durable?

What IS good is the competition. The FAB-10 has been overpriced, typically $300 for a stripped lower, just the casting and the magazine pinned inside.

Speaking of which... It's a bummer Bushmaster didn't do anything more innovative, like a hinged floorplate for unloading, cleaning, and servicing.

I wonder what the longevity of a single AR magazine used as a fixed mag is. And can it be cleaned easily? And what about states with restrictions on semiauto magazine size for hunting?
 
I can't access the link due to restrictions at this office, but if its what I'm thinking of, it is not a new product.

It would be a fun range toy....I guess....but I'd also rather get a real rifle than this butchered thing... :( :fire:
 
I can see the annoyances to having the restricted (read: bastardized) AR to cope with the law, but the way I see it, at least the companies are trying. At least you can still get the AR's modularity and ergonomics (if you approve of that sort of thing) in that communist wasteland, y'know?

It's gonna need a bayonet lug in a defensive situation. I certainly wouldn't want to reload that in a fight.

I'd rather have an SKS.


Good for BM though.

Top-loading ARs=bench gun use only.
For PPC rifle, 3-gun matches, Su-16CA is the way to go currently.
 
I was about to say, I don't see the difference between that and a FAB-10 that has been around for a while. I sure wouldn't pay $1K for that. If I were in Kali, I'd be owning the non-pistol-gripped, removable mag weapons like the mini 14, etc.

I might also consider the DSA Kali legal FAL, with the stripper clip friendly cut back top cover... truly a top loading rifle/no need to shotgun the receivers for a reload like with the FAB-10, and this Bushy. I just can't get around that "opening the receivers for a reload" thing.

I wonder if there would be any way to make a truly top loading AR. The gas tube/gas key inferface probably can't be exposed while firing... maybe a folding portion could be cut into the upper somehow?

Being an AR-15, add the fact that is one of those unreliable Carbon-15's, then add a jam-o-matic low-cap magazine, then finally - make it internal to complicate things. How on earth will someone be able to clear a jam in that rifle!! Yes, this rifle will be a reliability nightmare. The Chauchat might finally meet its match.


Wait...what was I thinking. There is no need for this gun to be reliable. It is a range toy, and Califonia would never approve a rifle capable of being used for home defense or to fight off a tyrannical government.
 
It's sad, but I may have to trade in my AR for one of those neuters when I get dragged back into the PRK. I'm just glad that manufacturers are finally taking a look at the AR market in California and are trying to address it. There's a market to be met there, and it's about time Bushmaster is starting to fill it.
