For the Bushmaster owners who've bought their weapons recently, how's the overall assembly quality and reliability? I'm looking at getting one but I've heard that on occasion one might find a canted front sight base, or has this issue since been corrected?
 
Lets put it this way.

Bushmaster is one of the few AR manufacturers that have been asked to fulfill government contracts.

Or so says Patrick Sweeney.

Mines been a great rifle with no problems ever.
 
Bushmaster is pretty good. I'd buy an AR-15 from them, assuming I had the money. They've had some problems in the past, like gas keys not properly staked, but that can be fixed. Some of my friends who've bought them haven't had any problems with them.
 
I have a dissipator carbine and I think its a great rifle. I know a couple of other guys who have them and have never heard them complain. I checked the different brands before i bought one, since the AR 15 is expensive wherever you decide to buy from and I'd never heard of manufacturing problems. I'd certainly buy from them again.
 
CMMG bargain bin rifles are really good, mine came in the mail today but I was delayed (again). I fondled it a little though and it didn't have a single blemish on it. Really happy with what I got to see of it and I can't wait to get it out to the range.

And they cost $570+24 shipping+FFL cost.
 
Well I doubled.

But Bushmasters seem good to me, the EST 2000 at Fort Knox used Bushmasters for the rifles, and they looked and felt sooooo much better than the FN M16 I was carrying. although who knows what kind of inhuman abuse our rifles had gone through before us. I know there were a couple occasions when I put a little frustration into the rifle instead of letting it become visible.

One time in the rain in a soaked grassy area seems to stick out in my mind... I would never make a non-government rifle go through that sort of bath.

My BM M4gery is now up to 2K rounds. Other than mounting an optic, the only things I have done it it was to beef up the extractor with a "D-fender" and install a Jard match trigger. I may install an MPI'd bolt carrier group on general principles. In retrospect I might have been about even money getting a Colt--money wasn't the issue. But I'm content with it, and I'm darned particular.

It has been a very good little gun from the get-go. I did restake the carrier key and buffer tube plate but both of those are no-brainers and weren't ever a problem.

I think that a lot of the errornet chatter is just that--chatter. I owned a Colt CAR-15 in the late 80s and I have yet to detect a real difference. At least until you sell it...

Slater I bought my son a Bushmaster Ar-15 M4 versions New and It's perfect in every way.
Unbelievable quality.

between me and my dad we have owned 5 bushmasters, and we have not had a single issue. the 1st one i had was an a2 with about 2k rds through it, i sold it for an a3 model and it has about 2500rds through it. they are reliable, and accurate , and a load of fun to shoot. there mags i have never had any issues with either. there name is on it but i doubt that they make there own.
 
Purchased 2 uppers, and a E2S Carbine after the ban back in 04. While I had them I was happy with function as well as reliability. Past the 1000rd mark while I had them.

Got a couple lowers still from them. I have a M4 ready also for my son. Man there are some cool dads out there:cool:
 
I'm not bashing Bushmaster...but S&W is a better quality rifle and only a little more $$$. My S&W has been through 5000 rounds in 2 months...and the only time it choked was on a weak reload of mine (working up loads).
I put 800 rounds through it in 8 hours...straight out of the box, I just sprayed the bolt down with CLP and let em fly. Its as accurate as an off the shelf bolt gun with good reloads, very well fit, and a tough finish. I know thats not what you asked...but I thought I'd throw it out there.

EDIT: I have heard that rumor about Bushmaster filling government contracts...from what I can tell...that holds about as much water as a potato sack. Again...I'm not bashing BM...just stating the facts as I understand them...BM's are fine plinking guns....but they ARE NOT military grade weapons. (neither is S&W)
 
I can testify a good Bushmaster here as well.

my XM15-E2S has been rock hard with all but one ammo brand: Wolf. It didnt like it, maybe 4 out of 60 rounds of wolf functioned properly.

BUT, it LOVES brass cased ammo, from FMJ to HP, its accurate with the heavy barrel, and its done really well after sitting frozen in the trunk of a car and then being able to plink with 100% function.

I'd say they're good :)
 
My Patrolman's Carbine is about 3 years old. I'm very happy with it. I had a few feeding problems early on, but it smoothed out after a few hundred rounds. It doesn't like whimpy ammo. The only major stoppage I had was the fault of ammo that had a reputation for primers backing out. One did and jammed the action. My hasty efforts to clear the jam made it even worse. I sent it to BM and they promptly fixed it free of charge.

I've heard the canted FS problem was a limited problem that they corrected in the QC. I have only heard good things about their customer service, so I feel confident that the rare issue a buyer may have will be promptly addressed.

I have a Bushy .223, and a .308 AR. Love 'em both. Fit and finish are perfect. My buddy just picked up a Bushy in .223, and he loves it, too. Nothing negative can be said from this end.
 
Just picked up the Bushmaster HBAR 16 inch carbine with removable carry handle for $1000 OTD.

I plan on leaving it as is with irons (nothing tacticool for now), feeding it plenty of Wolf steel case, and beating the crap out of it. There's some FAQ over at AR15.com that seems to rail on the Bushmasters but I'm very happy with mine. I think pretty much all the name-brand AR's are good these days.

Take a look at the "Dissapator" model if you like using irons. That's one I would have grabbed had I seen it locally.

You could even save some money and pick up a DPMS - that's something else I would have done had I been able to find one with the configuration I wanted locally. Also, the recommendation to look at CMMG bargain bin is smart unless you really like your local gun store.

Start picking up magazines - the polymer P-Mags are sold factory direct for under $15.
 
Except for not liking Wolf and the IG headstamped SS109/M855, my Bushie has been a great little rifle. It has been utterly reliable with PMC and Rem. 55grn ball.
 
Not bashing Bushmaster either but for about the same money you can get a complete LMT lower shipped to your FFL and a complete LMT upper to your residence, push two pins and have a WAY BETTER rifle:D
 
I love my bushmaster ultra-light. I have used Wolf, Am Eagle , PPu and some very old PMC and not a single issue and good groups. I have one Pmag that will sometimes not engage the LRBHO but that is all.
