I have the chance to buy a 2007-ish P220ST, LNIB with nightsites for $675. It does have the internal extractor and already went back to Sig once for extractor issues. Issues showed up immediately with this gun, within the first 50 rounds, so seller shipped it off and Sig replaced the extractor, polished the feed ramp and fired 50 perfect rounds according to the seller. The seller claims he's put 350 rounds since then and the gun has been 100%.

I am aware of the issue and what Sig has done about it. I'm also aware that some P220ST's have been perfect out of the box. So my question is do you think the guns that were affected by the internal extractor problem can in fact be repaired for good or will this problem creep back later in life? If the gun was $500 I wouldn't care, I'd just buy it and if I had to get a new slide later in life I'd still feel good as I understand that runs $200 and probably get fresh night sights as well. But at the current price its not favorable to have to buy a new slide down the road and might be a little risky.

BTW- He's not gonna take $500. If I dont buy it for $675 its getting traded at the show tomorrow.

I look forward to some input on this.

Personally I would bite the bullet since I've had great luck with SIGs - 2 P220's, 226, Hammerli, 1911 and 556.

I guess it boils down to how much you trust the seller. Can you bargain him down closer to 600?

Price is firm. Its not that I don't trust the seller, I believe what he's telling me. My heartburn comes from wondering if Sig has or even can fix these problems with the "milled slide internal extractor" guns or if this is just a patch and continued service will be required.

Basically if it had 450 rounds through it with zero problems I might feel better about the internal extractor but since its been problematic on this pistol before, will it reoccur? I'd bet my bottom dollar it will run another 300 rounds no problem but what about after 2K, 5K, or 10K rounds?

Let the record state I am also a Sig fan and own several Sigs, just none from this time period of milled slides and internal extractors.

I would probably go for it, my 2010 P220 ST has been perfect, and from what I've read the solid/milled slides are more reliable with external extractors, where the older German stamped/folded ones are fine with the internal extractor.
I paid $750 LNIB for mine on Gunbroker. Great gun, super accurate with WWB or my hand loads.

Hammer - not sure I understand what you're saying. This gun has both the milled slide AND internal extractor.

The STs are great guns and that is a very reasonable price...they are very accurate and Sig will address any problems you have with it.

I have two of the and bought them knowing about the problems. Mine were former LE guns and had been to the factory to be worked/look over and were sold as CPO guns...that is why they have different take-down levers

If you want to be worry free then pass on it.

If you can enjoy shooting it despite the fact you may have to send it back to Sig then buy it.

I was always waiting for mine to quit and didn't really enjoy shooting it because of that. I suffer some OCD about these kind of things so I sold mine.

9mm - Yup, you may have had a hand in me deciding to chase one of these :)

I ended up letting it go though. I've read way too much on these the past few days but I've come to the conclusion that some (most) internal extractor P220ST's will run fine and some (few) will have issues. But it seems that those with issues can have continued problems later on. That bothers me too much so I passed and will continue to search for an internal extractor gun with zero problems or a new external extractor gun. I've dealt with Sig's CS before and found them to be excellent but I still don't enjoy shipping guns around.

Actually I didn't really pass, I told him if he didn't sell it I'd give $600 for it :)

Thanks for all the input!

Ooops, sorry, mis-read your post.
The milled/internal guns are the ones that require a little more attention from Sig.
Passing on it was probably a good decision.

It seems like a good idea to stay in your comfort zone. The upper one in the picture is one I use for teaching and I wouldn't sell for less than $700, the lower one is off having custom work done on it.
