Buying at a gun show vs local dealer

If you buy a gun from a dealer at a gun show and there is a waiting period longer than the show, you handle it in the same way as if you bought on-line. You pay the money (deposit or whole thing), get a receipt with the amount paid (and due, if any) and the dealer's name and address. Then you get your dealer to send that dealer a copy of his FFL. The seller ships the gun to your dealer, and the transaction proceeds just like any other transfer.

Alternately, if the gun show dealer is in the same state, you can go to his store after the waiting period, but at the price of gas, a dealer 200-300 miles away, even if in the same state, is just (to me) too far to drive.

+1 on what GEM said.

I have found that in some cases I can buy much cheaper, at some gunshows than my local gunstore will ever lower their prices to. Believe you me...I have tried many times and then questioned about the price I paid. When they see the sales reciept they just shake their head. I always give my local gunstore the first chance!!

Here in Texas, if you have a CHL, there is no waiting period.

Sorry but "Local" style gun stores are a slowly dying breed, and minus nostalgia I don't feel sorry about it.

Most local places will charge you $100+ from what the manufacture lists as the price. They will tell you all kinds of reason, but usually they are just getting greedy. Walking into those places, the people behind the counter have a know-it-all attitude that is often associated with gun advocates, and gives firearms a bad name.

I know there are some great places left, but overall in general there is a tread of bad local shops. The internet has "revolutionized" shopping.
