Buying extra die sets

I have been picking up extra die sets when I find then at a decent price even in calibers I don't have and prbably will not get. I like to get tjem in, clean them up and get them set up for my Hornady Lock n Load presses. I will pick up a few pieces of brass and a few projectiles for what ever caliber of dies I bought and get them set up in bushings and ready to use.

I generally have several six packs of the Lock n Load bushings hanging on the pegboard for this purpose.

When some one can't find any hard to find ammo they can come over and load up what they need.
It's just a fun little addition to my reloading world.

I am always searching e bay for cheap RCBS dies and have bids on three die sets right now.
When my tax return comes in I will pick up several more odd ball caliber die sets.

I really enjoy reloading and do something up in my gun room a few nights every week.

Ya I have multiple for many sets. I could never get used to the bushings tho. There's a guy at are gun show that has about 15 milk crates full of rcbs die sets most are $10. I have been meaning to go back and get more, most were unopened.

I have two reloading setups about 60 miles apart and try to keep three die setups in my possession for each cartridge I reload just so I will never be stuck. The third set will be the same as one of the other two just for parts interchangeability. For 38 Spl I have a dozen die sets and use the seaters for bullets I have so I am not always needing to adjust things.

I got stuck when I first got back into reloading. Stuck case and I bent the depriming plug in 223. So I called RCBS and got the new piece on the way and bought another two sets of 223 dies.
Plus I will be buying a Hornady progressive this year so I am buying extra dies for that ahead of time.

I'm going in the opposite direction. I've sold most of the dies that I have had if I no longer own a firearm in that caliber. I do have a few extra single dies for special purposes. Like taper crimp dies for a few handgun calibers or Lyman "M" die for a few rifles that I shoot cast bullets in.

I found some at the flea market last yr, wooden coke flat full of sets and individual dies and another wooden coke flat full of accessories and 2 beam scales, we finally agreed on $50 if I paid 20 for the Lee single stage

I also keep multiple sets of dies.
I keep one set to use on my RockChucker with separate seating dies for various bullets types and styles in every caliber I reload for.
I have separate die sets for my two Hornady LnL presses so that I don't have to constantly spend time adjusting dies.
I am currently acquiring conversion sets and die sets for my Dillon 550 so I can keep the tool heads set up without needing to set up dies.

I buy most of my die sets at auctions...I examine them carefully before bidding on them and rarely pay more than $10-15 for any die set including carbide sets.
I have bought quite a few Redding die sets that I don't even own firearms for simply because I got them at excellent prices and condition. I expect to eventually sell them at a decent profit unless I acquire firearms in those calibers.

I don't do this with dies, other than I've still got dies for calibers I no longer own.

What I do (a buddy of mine does this as well) is have a "guest box" of loaded ammunition that we do not have firearms for, such as a .380, in the event of having guests who have a firearm, but no ammunition. Whenever I can pick up a box of this or that for not much I put it in the guest box.

Scratching up a few bucks for a die set is one thing but coming up with $500 for that Colt SAA that a guy was selling!!! Argh wrong time of year to have ANY toy money. Thought seriously about a loan but he had it sold the end of the day anyway.

I always have a problem not picking up used reloading equipment when I see it.
It’s a sickness...
I am trying to eliminate some of my duplicates and items that I do not use. Just sold a die set for 7mm mag that I bought 5-6 years ago cause my BIL has a rifle in that caliber. I have offered to help him reload some ammo for it but he does not shoot much and just buys factory ammo.

My Bil cashed his chips in a few weeks ago and he hoarded pistol ammo. I got it all, about 250 pounds of it. All factory new and moat of it self defence ammo. So instead of trying to sell it I will be buying pistols to shoot it.
I just bought a Glock 23 in 40 caliber.
I need to buy a 357 Sig. A 380 auto, and a 38 Super.
Besides other things on.my 2020 gun stuff to buy.

I also got a ruger 77 in 25/06.
I picked up 5,000 lg rifle primers.

So i have a good start so far this year.

Theravada great price on dies. Cheapest I find them here is 40. Puts a real damper on acquiring more.

Had the same problem over the last month or so with 2 die sets. I just got the replacement parts for my 7mm08 set today.
