Ok, since everyone is on the subject of gun grabbing. I live in NJ and my firearms were purcharsed legally out of state at PA gun shows. Since those merchants have the reciepts and forms, would that hypothetically give me more time before the NJ enforcers recognize that I am a gun owner? Or would the fact that I have a Firearms ID card automatically single me out and they would come to my house not knowing whether or not I had a firearm? I assume that they would start with everyone who has applied and recieved the FID card. I dont mean to start a crazy topic, but I was just curious how that would go. Weirder questions have been asked.

I'm in Jersey also, and I firmly believe the purpose of that FOID is to single us out.

I know because of an incident when I tried to buy another handgun last year. In an state update of computer databases they had gotten my name mispelled (Barrow). They had 30 years of my gun buying history on file. We got it straightened out, but I was surprised to see how complete the records were...remember, a lot of my guns were bought pre-computer databases. The only guns they didn't have on file were those I bought in the service in free states years before the feds started keeping records.

You are probably better off than I am. You've bought long guns in PA at the shows...those purchases would be brought to the attention of the Feds, but not Jersey. However, your FOID still singles you out as a danger to the peace and security we enjoy here.

I also buy handguns...every one with it's own permit...with notifications to the local, state, and federal gov'mints. I also had a exceedingly rare carry permit in the late 70's. I'm a member of two ranges. All of those records would be used if they decided to come knocking at my door. They've got my number.

The kids are finally out of the house and we're moving to free America. I suggest you do so as soon as you can. New Jersey is gone and has been for a while. Move before that stupid 'smart gun' law kicks in.

The fid's enough to single you out in general.

In a worst case scenario, NJ will demand that you account for all the arms they know about.

Buying longarms out of state buys you plausible deniability re: NJ for those specific armaments.

If the out of state FFL did it right, he'll maintain the Federal and NJ forms in his files, in full accordance with the law. Thing is, NJ will never know about it, as NJ has no jurisdiction over FFL files in other states.

NJ also has no jurisdiction over FFL 4473 files within NJ -- only the BATFE can demand to see those. (Well, NJ can demand, but the FFL doesn't have to accede to the demand.)

This is great info.. I guess I was asking in the same info in wrong forum area!.. I bought all my guns in VA in the military. I dont know if its a good idea to register either? I take my guns home to shoot with friends for 7 years now.. I get looks when I pull out the AR's but nothing other than that!.. Would it be a bad idea to register when I move back? Should I just stay under the states radar and just buy a pistol so I can get the LIC and ID for both handguns and rifles? Do I have to register each one of them?

I'm a little scared to ask my soon to be wifes family questions on this?... Im marrying Deputy Attorney General Robert Czepiel of the Division of Criminal Justice - Special Prosecutions Bureau for the states cousin.. It wouldnt be a good idea to start off on the wrong side of this track!!!

NJSP audits firearms dealers in NJ to insure that they are complying with state regulatory requirements. NJSP checks inventories to see if every weapon ordered by the dealer can be accounted for. If the inventory is off the NJ dealer loses his license. (see NJ vs Sportsman's Rendezvous).

FWIW, PA has been keeping track of firearms sales since around 1942. They don't call it registration .... they call it a database. The PA Supreme Court had a ruling on this last year. (see PA vs Allegheny County Sportsman's League).

I'm sure PA will have no problem sharing that information with NJ.

No matter where you live, if you register guns with state or local officials they can find you in a data base very quickly. Historically, in other countries the government and/or foreigh invaders have often used registration lists to facilitate confiscation. In this country the authorities in California used registration lists to track (so-called) assault weapons after they were outlawed.

A prudent person should consider that any registered gun is dead meat if the government decides to confiscate firearms, and that the same process identifies them as a gun owner.

Fortunately the gun-grabbers will have a problem in Arizona because gun registration by law ... is illegal. :D

But of course the BATF&E might give them some help ... :banghead:

There is NO REQUIREMENT that you register any gun upon moving into NJ.

DO NOT bring any gun that meets the definitions of the NJ AWB. (Summary: 19 named arms, or > 2 evil features, mag limit = 15....Fed AWB compliant arms are generally OK)

The NJ "Assault Weapon" registry IS CLOSED.

BE AWARE that the NJSP people who are responsible for firearms compliance also have ATF credentials, and therefore routinely access 4473s.
