have to ask, what does C/D mean?

I've been wondering that since the thread was posted, but was afraid to ask.

Charles Daly has been out of business for years, so that seems doubtful.

No offense intended to the OP, but.....largely, when one person out of many feels a particular item is "overpriced" what he or she most often means is "I can't afford it".....which, realistically are two very different things. It takes good materials, good workers, and good machinery to make a quality product. These things don't come free, or even cheap. Most guns are priced...IMO...according to quality. Theres a REASON a Remington 770 and a Colt M4 clone don't cost the same. You get what you pay for, in both cases. For some, the bottom of the barrel guns may be serviceable, but most serious shooters realize that its smarter to buy a more expensive, quality firearm that will last a lifetime if not several lifetimes, as opposed to whatever has the lowest price tag.

If the OP means Colt Defense, well $900 bills seems like a bargain to me since I paid $1500 for my Colt 3 years ago. I want to buy another one.

All ARs have dropped in price.

I think that a Colt for a grand is a great deal and it's diminishing returns when one starts paying the higher prices of other DI ARs such as Noveske, LMT, LWRC, etc.

Now if you asked about AR accessories I would say most are way over priced. How a plastic forward grip can cost $85 plus boggles my mind. Daniel Defense rails i think are the worst offender. I can see the elevated price early on to make up for R&D costs but at this point a price drop is way overdue.

There definitely are some pricey AR's out there, but you get a tool second to none. Personally, I can't afford those yet. Got myself an older S&W for $800 a few years back and made myself another carbine with a DSArms upper and ccmg lower for under $600 I believe. Both have been superb thus far

Guys, its obvious. C and D are the options for his survey. Apparently he has some aversion to the letters A, B and E.

if you compare an AR15 o any other current production semi auto it'll actually be cheaper. an AK is about the only cheaper option and that's a franksteined mess that may or may not be as good as the original

yes they are. les baer ones are as well.

what's the point of bitching about it though? just don't buy one. there are plenty of fairly priced ones out there.

He finally responded to my PM. It's Confirm/Deny, and he means all of them, no particular brand.

The .gov pays about $1200 for an M4 with RAS. Which is pretty close to street price.
NO. They pay about $600 (high fives actually) for a Colt M4 in the box with a sling, blank adapter and a magazine. They come with carry handles. The rails systems come seperately from KAC, I never saw the invoices for those, but I'd guess they were somewhere in the $100 range back in '01-'04. Now the army owns the patent for the KAC rail system and has them made by other makers in addition to KAC (and here you can really see why "mil spec" is so important and not just a word --the KAC and the contract parts are absolutely identical).

They may pay $1200 for an M4 with rail, M68, grip, flip sights, and PAQ laser. Army pays nowhere near close to retail, or wholesale for that matter, for gear. Not for rifles anyway, or gear for the soldier.

When it comes to equipment contracts for big stuff, they gladly pay ten times what it is worth. Pentagon politics, disgusting.

I don't what C/D is either. Abbreviations and acronyms not universally known work best when spelled out first.

Seriously, it's confirm/deny. You guys have never seen that anywhere else?
Not once in my life. Why even put it in there? The sentence makes perfect sense without it. It is a little esoteric in my opinion.
