First of all, I hope this is the apropriate forum to ask a question about magazines.

If I'm not mistaken Check-Mate is selling 1911 magazines with, either, GI or hybrid lips.

From the above two options which one should be better for general use? I understand that people were buying Colt mags because of the hybrid lips but since they're also offering GI lips I'm wondering which option is better.

I think that any non standard bullet shape (read hollow point or semi wad cutter) may feed better with the hybrid feed lips. If you use 230 grain FMJ the GI taper lip design is what JMB specified and they work well here. The hybrid design is to bridge the gap, so to speak, and allow one mag design to work adequately for most rounds.
This is what I have learned about mag design from 1911 Tuner. I trust him.
There is a lot of information about mag design available here and at other forums. Do a search and decide what design you want to test and make a personal choice. Mag performance is critical to semi-auto pistol operation. Some pistols are very sensitive as to just what mags work in them.

Check-Mate offers both the Colt designed "Hybrid" tapered lip mags with the late timed release point, and the true to spec USGI full tapered "Hardball" mags. Both are also available in stainless. Opt for the high performance spring. It's a very close equivalent of Wolff's 11-pound spring.

Huge discounts come in at 50, and a smaller one with a 10 magazine order.

These are the very same 7-round magazines that Colt includes with their pistols. The only thing missing is the rampany horse logo.

Anyone wants to share his or her experience with 1911 mags with GI vs hybrid (Colt) lips?

For mine and everyone else's benefit, can anyone provide the mfg part/model # for the Colt and Checkmate Hybrid 7 rounders please? I assume these also have the dimpled, flat follower?

My Springer likes the stock flat dimpled follower mags it came with (7 rounders), with the addition of 11 # Wolff springs. These mags actually have a slight amount of taper in the feed lips, but not as much as the Colt/Checkmate Hybrids. But I'd like to give the hybrids a try sometime. My current mags are blued, and I imagine with lots of carry in the hot muggy south they will eventually begin to rust. I'd like to find a good replacement sooner than that.

Thanks!
