c-products mags....boooo

I went to the Indy 1500 over the weekend, and all of the C-products mags I looked at there looked to be about the same as mine, although it is hard to tell without seeing them loaded. I did send C-P an email to see if they'll do anything about it. I'll update this thread if and when something else happens.

wait for pmags.

I actually question the reliability of any Polymer magazine over the long run.

The "Dust Cover" acts to push the rounds down to prevent feed lip creep when storing loaded for extended periods. Also as a go/no-go gauge for magazine feed lips, and a disassembly tool.

Not one issue with the 4 I have, with one exception: I cant find any more right now.

C-Products is another story. After purchasing a pack of 10 with the orange Magpul followers only 2 would function. The feed lips were so out of spec on 2 of them, anytime you got more than 6 rounds into them all the rounds would be launched via the spring. The other 6 wouldnt function any of my AR's.

I guess you could say I'm a lil bit biased.

BTW 44mag.com has D&H 30 rounders for 12.99 in stock with free shipping over $200

I've got 5 alumimum CProducts 30-round mags (green follower) that have produced 0 malfunctions at one carbine class and many multigun matches.

I've got 6 stainless CProducts mags (gray "anti-tilt" follower) that were a source of trouble. The followers were all oversized. The springs seemed weak. And 3 of the 6 bodies either had misshapen feed lips or sloppy welds which bound the follower. (The remaining 3 all had some splotchy welds, but the folds were good and the excess material was easy enough to remove.) I sent the defective three back to the vendor. It'll probably be awhile before the replacements arrive, due to the panic.

Everybody has defects. Lots of people have had good fortune with CProducts mags. Besides, if you want a stainless body, there aren't many alternatives.

Kinda makes me feel sorry for the folks who buy mags by the truckload but never check them. I don't care whose name is stamped on the floorplate.

Well, after two emails to C-products..... I've received no response. I'm sure they're busy (and I pity whoever winds up with what they're making), but after 3 weeks, I'm gonna guess they don't give a :cuss: about crappy product. I guess that officially puts them on my "do not buy" list. From the above responses, I gather some people have done OK, but it sounds like the steel mags are the main problem. Hopefully this thread will prevent someone else from having my troubles.

I guess I'll contact Widener's and see if they'll do anything.

I bought 10 or 12 C Products mags in a big "group buy" 18 months to two years ago or so.

I wound up sending most of them back after a visual inspection and a simple loading test.

All of the mags had sloppy welds, some better then others. When I loaded the mags to 28 rounds I had the followers jam up on a couple. And these were the Magpul followers!

On one mag, which actually looked "good", the loaded rounds popped out of the mag when I lightly tapped it on the carpeted floor to seat the rounds. I'd never had this happen before with any kind of mag and believe me, I wasn't tapping very hard. I kept tapping to see what would happen and with every tap another round or two popped out until the mag was empty.

I wound up sending them back to the vendor and then paying extra for USGI NHMG mags instead. I did keep three or four of the best looking CP mags to see how they'd run. (I don't know the answer to that yet as while I did have some mag malfunctions in a rifle class, I wasn't able to look to see which mags were bad at the time. Just too busy doing the drills).

Here's some pictures of some of the mags from my order. These were pretty typical of what I received. These were all brand new mags that had never beenn put into a rifle and I only loaded once.

Here's three mags showing the bad metal folds and welds on all three. The mag in the middle is about the best of the CP mags I received.

In this picture I put an OKAY GI mag in the middle. Notice how much cleaner the fold and weld is in the GI mag then the CP mags on either side. That really tells the story right there.

Wow... I'd be upset if mine looked like those, too.

I just opened the box of 10 CProducts Stainless Steel 30 round magazines with orange followers that came in yesterday.

None of mine look like that.

While I haven't fired them (I just opened the plastic as I was reading this thread), all of mine have clean edges, good welds, and good feed-lip geometry. The followers seems to operate as intended.

I'll follow up on this as I have a chance to try my new ones out.

I should note that the ones that I have are "panic manufacture." I ordered them Decemeber 20,2008 and they were delivered two days ago.

Not hard to imagine in this environment they are probably running 24/7 to keep up with demand, relying on several suppliers to keep up as well. Classic case for quality control to take a dump. I have several of the basic Aluminum with gray follower which run very nicely, no problems. I would expect a few companies will start having problems trying to keep up with this demand and then instituting extra production of meet manufacture dates down the road in anticipation of bans. It was similar in 94 except that there were just sooo many surplus mags around that it mattered little except for price. Not the case now.

None of the c-products magazines I purchased were during any kind of boom, and they were all crap.

I don't know why everyone wants to keep making excuses for CP, unless it's because they're trying to validate a prior purchase.

There is no good reason to take the chance on these magazines. They are no more available than any of the others, and D&H, Brownells, and Magpul are all better choices.

Well, C-products didn't respond in three weeks, but Widener's got back to me in less than 24 hrs. They said to send 'em back, and they'll pay for the shipping! I think I have a new favorite ammo retailer. Now if they'd just carry a better line of AR mags.

Half of my 30 or so mags are CProducts and they all look and function great. I would not hesitate buying more.

Not defending any prior purchase here, the few I have are good ones. When I purchased mine there was not a bad word said about them, not so anymore. I am not currently in the market but if I were I would probably buy from another company.
