You Can't USE Downloaded Forms....

From whatever source, you must apply on the actual ATF form 7CR. If anyone really needs the form, let me know via e-mail or PM, and give me contact info and I'll mail you the extra form I got a few weeks back. And I'll be cool and not charge you the $1.30 something cost for mailing it to you. Or send the downloaded one you got off the web, and get it returned to you from the ATF because you didn't do it right, and then have to wait even longer for your C & R license if that works for you.

Also rember the new ATF mailing address for the form is the West Virgina one in small print at the very bottom of page 4 (as it used to be Atlanta, Ga).

I think they must like to keep changing this, I believe it was a Texas address a few years ago.

She processed mine, and it still came pretty quickly, even with me screwing up. Getting a C & R was likely the easiest dealing I have ever had with a government agency, the people I dealt with were pretty cool. I've got the Cincinnati Field office number on speed dial on my cell, if I have a question, they're always very happy to answer any and all questions I have (even if they're damned stupid ones.)

I called the BATFE and they said a PDF or photocopy of the new 7CR form was perfectly acceptable. One guy on Calguns also called (3 times and got the ame answer all 3 times...)

I know its a long thread over there, but I read every single entry looking for problems before I sent mine in this way.

Once folks on Calguns started reporting back success and had actually gotten their 03 using the PDF, I stuck a stamp and mailed mine off to WV. That was last week and if there are any problems with mine I'll be the first to report it here.

I Stand Corrected...

I hadn't contacted ATF with that question, I was going on the experience of a friend who has had a C & R license for years, and he said reproductions of the form were not accepted. Thanks for setting the record straight!

Check page 10 over on Calguns

Looks like at least one person had an issue with the PDF form.

ATF "approved" it, but told him to fill out and mail in one of the original green ones as they would not accept copies.

Might just be that that agent is being a stickler. A few folks have called and were told that copies / scans were OK. Or maybe they are going to make it be a agency policy now. Never know with the alphabet soup crew.

Got my C&R about a month ago. Took about 10 weeks from request for app to permit showing up in mail box (I turned around the app in a couple of days). Took about another month to get the regs, forms, and CD (those came last week).

I've had mine for quite a few years. It was due to expire on 5/1/09 so I sent in my renewal on 2/25/09 figuring that would give them plenty of time. My check cleared on 3/4/09 but as of 5/1/09 still didn't have it. So I called them and was told that it had mailed out on 4/28. Sure enough, it arrived shortly thereafter.

Just keeping this thread at the top and updating. I know its only been a day but....

A few new developments over on CALGUNS, as the guy who initially had problems just got his 03 C&R in the mail using only the .PDF...

I swear, our Govt has to be the most unorganized bunch of $2.00 an hour minds, making $200.00 an hour on a $.01 job, that has ever been.

Lets hope the easy way continues to prevail.

ATF issued formal letter stating that all PDF will be rejected.

Of course, they still charged my CC $30 TODAY. How they can charge me money for an invalid form is a discussion I guess I won't go into here.

Hopefully the green forms show up the same time as my rejection letter so I can turn it around quickly.

Just to follow up as promised.

I got the ATF form letter in the mail today. It stated that the pdf was not approved and I needed to contact a distribution center to get the approved 7CR form. They assigned a specific agent/person at the ATF for me to mail the correct form to and stated that they would just keep my payment as current.

The wife is calling the distribution center in Springfield VA (right up the road) to get the proper green 7CR sent to the house as I can't seem to make the ATF web site order function owrk properly (my reason for doing the .pdf in the first place).
