Large Gun Collection Stolen

Edmundo Aguilar
Lodi, CA (CBS13) ―

Thieves broke into a storage facility in Lodi and stole dozens of dangerous guns worth thousands of dollars.

A visit to the storage unit in Lodi usually brought a smile to Kenneth Warren, but now he says his collection is gone.

"Everything from deer rifles to shot guns, to dirty harry wheel guns."

Someone busted lock and made off with about $70, 000 worth of guns. Officials say it wasn't easy. The guns were tightly locked away in a big safe. A safe that investigators say was dragged down the hallway by more than one person. Then lowered into an elevator and somehow placed into a truck or SUV, leaving a trail of damage behind.

Officers are now worried the goods could be used for bad. Officer Dale Eubanks says the guns could be filtered into the community and get into he wrong hands. Not to mention the collectable ammo designed to kill.

Warren does not want that to happen so he is working with the police to track down the thieves. Officials are examining a hand print that was left on the storage unit.

The event itself is not so remarkable as the language the reporter used for the story....

Seeing as how dangerous those guns are, they probably stole themselves! They walked right out the door and are now wandering the streets looking for blood (or maybe, just some good coffee). Beware!! Boo!

$70,000 worth of guns shouldn't have been in a safe that could be hauled in the back of a SUV.

a1abdj,
I suspect you are just trying to give good advice but it almost sounds like you are blaming the victim. Making a poor choice for storage doesn't change a thing. The criminals are still the criminals (and the reporter still needs a time-out).

That's either an incredibly large safe, all the guns are gold plated, or else this is just an attempt at insurance fraud. That or a handful of those crappy engraved "fine guns/rifles" I will never understand in a million years. $50k for a double barrel shotgun with some engraving? No thanks, I'd rather have something useful like a 911 Turbo or a $300 dollar shotgun with $49,700 worth of ammo! ;)

A $70,000.00 collection in a storage facility? For some reason, that just doesn't sound like a good plan. I feel that if I had that value invested, I sure as he** wouldn't be storing it in a rent-a-box joint.

point by point.....

1) dude may really needed to store his collection. he put it in a safe and hoped for the best, which is all you can really do in a jam.
2.) whoa, mister reporter dude, simmer down now, simmer down!
3.) those are some really dedicated criminals who knew where that safe was, what was in it and had a plan to get it out. :scrutiny: dude who stores guns in a storage facility needs to learn to keep his trap buttoned.
4.) OMG!!!!!! ammo is ment to kill!!! :what: !!!! no sh*t sherlock.
5.) Officer Eubanks needs to call some of the bigger cities, cause thats were the guns are going. i doubt they're staying in Lodi.

someone give the reporter a chill pill, the officer a reality check and the gun owner a lesson in disceretion.

In passing you hear them mention it is 50 guns. I can see how that might amount to 70K if they are engraved or higher dollar guns. One of the pics the owner shows looks like a SW500, they are $1200 nowadays or are they even more now?

My SW500 is a Performance Center and it cost about that much. The local gun stores still have the base models in the $899-$999 range (MegaSports and G.A.T. guns here)

Sounds like insurance fraud to me. Having seen the insides of many storage units I can tell you that randomly breaking into them won't even supply you with stuff for a good yard sale. So either the thieves knew the guns were there or they never were there. I'm betting on the latter.

Considering how many hoop's you have to jump through to legally buy guns in CA, I guess this is what people resort to. It was probably easier to steal a 1200 lb. safe out of a locked storage facility than it was to go to their local Wally World and buy a gun... oh, I forgot, Wally's doesn't have guns in CA.

I'm willing to bet that this was an inside job, someone had to know that he had the guns there. Most storage places have managers that live on site and have some type of security system.

So, how were all of these thing beaten w/o anyone hearing or seeing what was happening? This whole thing stinks of some type of scam/inside job...

Hey Count, Lodi is on the map and a pretty big crossroads in NorCal. and it can't be that bad if CCR wrote a song about it. ;)

This report brought to you by CBS field journalist Eduardo Aguilar:

"Guns baaaaad!"

That report has to be one of the alltime worst written "news reports" I have ever read! It appears more that which a senior in high school journalism would write.

But what would you expect from those who now get their degrees from our wonderful "progressive" schools??

Just another prime example of the state of "journalism" today.
