I went by a Cabelas today hoping to see and handle a Ruger m77 Compact, see what the short barrel carbine compared to a regular 22" barreled M77. They had a good array of the low end Ruger Americans (not my cup of tea), I asked about M77s in stock, the clerk said he hadn't seen a Ruger M77 in a couple years but there were a few in the "gun library".... I found 5 M77s, all used with nicks in the stock, one .308, a .270, 30-06 and another in the International model in 7x57. the lowest priced was right at $1100. I asked the young salesman about the price, he said "they had a really smooth action like a Mauser".... he had no real info on why used M77s were about $500 more than a brand new one. I informed him I had bought a new M77/44 a few weeks ago and he said he didn't even know Ruger made the M77 in .44 mag. Is there something I don't know about used M77s, I realize lots of Cabelas gun staff aren't real sharp as far as firearms...really left a little angry.
