Gday- :)
I have a Ruger M77 mk II in .223. It has the rather nice but heavy laminated varmint stock.
I had been thinking about giving it a new stock-something a bit lighter and sleeker and I began thinking Arisaka. I have a .303 (Lithgow SMLE, of course) and am partial to full timber stocks.
So, I am unfamiliar with the internal dimensions of the Arisaka stock- if there is anyone out there who knows the M77 (heavy barrel) and the Arisaka I am asking your opinion on the amount of work I will have to do to make it fit.

Ruger made the M77 with the Manlicher style stock, I would look into getting the real deal if it was me.

Why not buy a lighter Ruger stock and save a lot of work. The most you would have to do is open up the barrel channel.

Thanks.
I have been looking at lighter Ruger stocks and it would save work, but I do like the long timber military stocks.
I am also aware of the Ruger Manlicher stock and will go that way if I can find one, the trouble is I am in Oz and these usually have to be ordered specially-at least that is what the gunshops I ask tell me.
However if anyone in Brissy or the South East knows different I am all ears.:)

There is a lot to consider in modifying a stock for another action. The length and width of the action. How the action sits in the wood. The location and height of the trigger. The location of the magazine. The location of the recoil lug. Then your Ruger is probably built on a short action and the Arisaka is probably on a standard action. There could be a lot of mods and you will use a lot of bedding compound unless you have an aluminum bedding block made.

I am familiar with both guns, It won't work. The ariska has a metal piece that extends back further than the m77. Buy a new stock and sell me the ariska.
Another option is to buy a stock blank and fit it.
