I notice that according to the details concerning most of Cabela's promotions such as coupons, free shipping, etc. doesn't include firearms. Does this mean black powder arms, or just cartridge firearms

I'm 99% certain that all their promotions DO include blackpowder guns. Just not "modern" firearms. They have some high dollar stuff in their gun library and probably do not want somebody using a 10% off coupon on a $10,000 rifle.

There isn't a large markup in firearms. When my brother ran a shop, his markup was typically 10-15% and that was what was a competitive price. If places allowed 10% coupon on modern firearms the margins would be very low if at all. The margins are much higher in the supplies (cleaning kits for example) typically 50 to 100%. That's where a shop males some money and earn a living.

Most all of the coupons that are mailed to my house can be used to buy center fire guns. The most recent one that I received actually included two offers with separate discount codes. One code was for $20 off a $150 purchase and the other offered $50 off a $500 purchase and they were both good to use for firearms purchases at the local Cabela's store.
These promotional discounts basically help to offset the state sales tax and to pay for gas traveling back and forth to the store after putting a gun on hold or lay-a-way.
For instance, the local store will place a gun on hold for 5 days without any payment at all. Then by the end of the 5th day the buyer needs to make a 25% down payment to place the gun on lay-a-way for up to 60 days.
After the down payment is made, if the buyer wants to cancel the purchase then they will get charged $25 when the money is refunded.

I knowhave its slightly off topic, but Cabelas has a 30% mark up on firearms, this was according to the sales person when negotiating the price of a potential trade in a few monthhs ago.

The reason I started this thread is I've been thinking about ordering the NAA .22 Magnum Cap and Ball Revolver Kit and i figured now would be a good time since they have 1 cent shipping. But then I clicked on the "see more details" button and it said the offer does not apply to firearms so I figure I'm out of luck. However according to the posts I may be in luck after all. Guess I'll just have to try and see what happens.:banghead:
