Just as someone previously predicted....Cabelas raised prices on some of their BP firearms after the new year. Specifically, I note the Walker went from $399 to $419 since yesterday. I'm sure some of the other revolvers have gone up too. It's kind of odd that Cabelas already had one of the higher prices on their Uberti made Walker. Buffalo Arms has it for $363 while Dixie Gun Works has it for $355. Cabelas does not do price matching either.

Yep they do it every year...some models go up as much as 20.00 a year ..
I use to keep all my Cabelas books so I could compair .
Cabelas has always been my priceing guide for the last 5 years or so .
DixieGunWorks also goes up every year around this time ..
They`ll both still have their sales ....
Some folks will blame Obama some will blame the falling dollar ...looks like a cost of liveing raise to me and always has .
At least you can sell some of your older Cap & Ball revolvers and make a little money this way .
I hope the folks in Italy got a raise this year ...I sure didn`t get one .

It seems their best buy has always been the Pietta made 1858 Remington NMA ...
The Walker is a trap though ...its easy to find a better price on one.

The sign at the local Cabela's says they do.

I don't have a local Cabelas which means I have to order via the internet. From what I can tell a bricks-n-mortar Cabelas will price match your local bricks-n-mortar competition but not out of town or internet competition.

I was told Cabelas did not price match. This was from a conversation today with a Cabelas online rep when I asked him if they would match Buffalo Arms or Dixie Gun Works. Specifically, we were talking about placing an order online with Cabelas.com and pricematching other online distributers of the same product.

I heard Midway USA is getting into the full line sporting goods ...any truth to that one ?

You should give S&S Firearms in Glendale, NY a call (718-497-1100). Their 2009
catalog lists the Uberti Walker for $321! Their Dragoon prices are pretty good, too.
Their URL is www.ssfirearms.com.

all i want is another 1858 pietta. Got to wait and pay off some bills first. if you guys no of another spot let me know

I have stopped buying from Cabelas, I can beat their prices at the Mom and Pop stores and even at Dick's and Gandar Mtn. I also requested that they take me off their mailing list.....

Just bought a 1851 Confederate Navy .44 for $114 out the door. This is the Pietta remake. Sale price is 119.00, and they have a $20 off coupon for orders of $100 or more. After taxes, shipping and everything $114 does not seem like a bad price for something that gets pretty good reviews just about everywhere. We shall see.

Never owned a black powder pistol so this should be interesting. I figure it is about as expensive as 9mm shooting in the end.

$10/ 100 rounds
$35/ 1000 caps
$40 / lbs of powder
$ for lube, wads blah blah

It is hard for me to do the math w/ no experience but it seems like fun. How many shots will a pound of powder last at 20gr???

Some places may list a low price and then not have them in stock.
Other places may be selling old stock from before the latest price increases.
Cabela's may be more reactive to price increases because they sell so many that they constantly reorder them at the latest higher prices.
And Uberti Walkers may not be made in the same high volumes as Pietta Remingtons are.
Plus Cabela's offers so many promotions & discounts through their percentage back program.
And they also have a no questions asked return policy which costs them money in the end for every gun that comes back whether it's defective or not.
Cabela's Walkers aren't usually ever advertised as being on sale. So maybe that's an item that many folks choose to use their promotional points for, plus free shipping offers that the smaller outfits just can't match the % discount in the end.
Buy anything from Cabela's and points are accumulated. Have it sent to a local store and there's no shipping fee. Right now they offer $20 off $100 purchases. So it's not too hard to get the Cabela's Walker at a fairly reasonable price along with a guarantee that the buyer will be satisfied. And if the customer wants it replaced they'll send another one no questions asked. That's a piece of mind guarantee. :)

Just for grins I gave S&S a phone call. They said the price is $348 and the catalog is outdated. Plus another $14.50 for shipping. Eventually, it gets to the point where you have to wonder if it is worth the small difference to go with a small mom&pop shop. At $321 I probably would consider ordering it from them but with the new increased price I'd probably spend another $10 and get it from a source I'm more familiar with.

p.s. thanks for the tip though. :)

Yeah, the prices on everything are going up :what:. Since the Consumer Price Index didn't go up in 2009, we poor old Civil Service retirees aren't getting a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) increse for 2010 :cuss:. How am I gonna buy more C&Bs that way ?????????? :banghead: I may have to cut back to one every other month :(.

Rhoggman, you can get 350 shots from one pound of powder at 20 grains per shot (7000 grains [one pound] divided by 20 grains per shot equals 350).

Your post also stated
$40 / lbs of powder
Holy cow! Where did you find those prices???:what:

Get together with friends or members of a local club, then buy and split a case of 25 pounds. That way the price will run in the neighborhood of $13 to $16 per pound.

I have a Pietta 1860 "Outlaw" made for Cabela's and while I got it at a show, I don't think I paid over $125 for it. It's a good, servicable firearm.
