I am looking to change a Series J Savage 112 from 223 to 260 Remington. This is the single shot version that I very recently purchased. I have ordered an EGW one piece scope base for it and am currently shopping for glass as well.
As to barrel I have selected a Shilen barrel from Midway and a bolt head from Numreich. Is there anything else that I will have to replace? I will of course buy a set of no go/go gauges to check once I mount the barrel.
Thanks for any and all help on this project. I have worked on guns as a hobby most of my life (i'm 40) but have never tried a caliber change. I looked the internet over, as I prefer to research first, change later, but finding information on this intermediate savage action is a bit difficult. Talked to Savage and Numreich as well.
Any tips/suggestions are always welcome!
