California banned guns this year

You can buy an off the list AR lower with the intent of building a fixed-magazine rifle (there are several images of letters from CADOJ posted online which grudgingly admitting this).

If the DOJ adds the receiver to the list, then you'll have to register the receiver as an AW--at which point you could do anything you want with it. An AW is an AW regardless of what you add to or subtract from it.

I can't imagine the DOJ not shoring up the breech ASAP. If they leave it open, eventually the story will end up on TV and they'll look like a buncha idiots.

OK, maybe I'm just confused, but the link provided from calguns.net hasn't helped clear things for me.

If I am reading correctly, it is legal to get a lower with a fixed 10rd mag. The DOJ may illegalize it in the future, in which case it can be registered as an AW at which time "other" truly AW features can be added. True?

I'd really like an M4gery; how do I find out which brands I can get, from whom, and who will act as FFL?

That is correct, but we should concentrate on buying these lowers for the sole purpose of building them into California legal, fixed mag AR's. ;)

There are group buys over on calguns. Try and get in on them... but hurry, time is running out. Its predicted the list will be updated by next week, so try and get a lower as soon as you can, so... you know... you can build a cal legal fix mag AR.... yeah... :uhoh: :D

Part of me thinks we should keep this quiet, the other part thinks we should shout about this from the rooftops. I think the former approach is best.

I am a northern California native who got out of the state 3 years ago due to this kind of crap. I now live in Arizona where you can get assault weapons anywhere without any waiting period. Eventually you wont be able to use the restroom in Cali without a permit. :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Hmm... you're off to a nice start on this board....

Sven,
Whether we keep quiet or yell from our rooftops, it wont make a difference. The DOJ already knows of the activities and have audited FFL's on Wedneday. All we can do and wait to see what their decision is regarding this situation. Any luck in finding yourself any lowers?

Damn, I stumbled onto this late in the game.

Gotcha on the intent ;)

Guess I've got some group buy to look into :)

I know at a minimum I plan to pick up some flavor of M1A variant this year; plus maybe a Remington 700 based rifle and anything else that may soon be deemed non-PC sometime soon by the politicians here. :(

I've never bought a gun online or used an FFL so I'm lost with all that. However, I want one too, I've always wanted a fixed mag AR. Where exactly do I go? calguns? Sorry for being such a noob.

Thanks,
-Dev

Why do you think these two guns will be deemed "non-PC?"

Just because one has a detachable magazine and the other is deemed as a sniper rifle to the blissninnies doesn't mean it'll be banned anytime soon. Maybe later on down the road as the JBT try and ban any all all centerfire rifles one at a time, but we got time. Get in on the AR bandwagon as soon as you can! The Socal FFL I know of ends selling lowers tomorrow! (saturday). PM me Saturday morning if your still interested and I'll give you more info.

Dev,

Same goes for you, PM me tomorrow morning if you're serious of getting a AR lower, with the "intent" of making a fix mag AR, and I'll let you know where you can get a lower if you reside in Socal. Remeber, for us Californians, this maybe the opportunity of a lifetime... sadly....

Gearbox, you too.

Everyone should get the opportunity to get on this. Remember, its not a loophole, were doing things LEGALLY. Don't give up on this! :)

You go, Rich! Gather up all these wayward Californians and lead them to the Promised Land! :D

Thanks for the offer (sorry for the late reply) but I actually did a little of my own work and managed to get my hands on some new, well, you know. :D :D

Thanks again to everyone who mentioned anything that helped me, now where to get this.... "fixed mag" ;)

The M1A and the Mini-14 were on the chopping block in AWB II, but I guess nothing happened with that proposed bill or whatever. They opened it up to "Battle Rifles" as well.

But I'd still go for anything semi-automatic if I were still in California.

And swinging it back to SB489, just be glad it changed before it went into effect. The originally chartered bill said that NONE could be sold retail on 1/1/06 without at least one feature. I freaked out and started buying handguns faster than I could receive them. This was me when I read the 2005 DOJ Gun Law Epic showing that the law had changed.

I have the Kel-Tec SU16, but may still buy a Mini14. The Kel-Tec is a very nice polymer gun. But the Ruger stocks are so pretty!

I will be getting an M1A and a Garand!

For real... THR is not the place to ask!

Go over to calguns, click legal forum, then click, "california legal self loading 223 rifle" sub-forum"

do it.

No, you aren't too late. The DOJ could act anyday, so I'd act as if today was the last day and get out there and find a lower.

Real quick, I just wanted to add that you should read the AR AK FAQ on the top of the page before asking any questions. The regulars there get tired of answering the same questions over and over again.

The search button and FAQ will be your friend.

Good luck in your endeavor! :D

We've been hearing that for the past couple of weeks already. :D
I've got one for me, one for my dad (to give to me bro  ), and one spare that I shall vacuum pack and stick in the safe. hehe

Exactly. So now is the time to act. They know about it, they intend to do something about it. But we don't know when. It could be tomorrow, or it could be 3 months from now. Only the DOJ knows.

CA's banned list and AR type rifles??

I live in CA, an am wanting to purchase something similar to an AR-15. Is there anything that is being sold legal in CA that is similar and comparable?? Also, is the H&K 308 banned in CA? Thanks.

hey nickey, the situation in the PRK is too complicated for a small post. Go over to calguns.net and use the search engine, they'll sort you out. I can briefly summarize:

AR-15's are banned by name. You can get an AR-15 "Like" rifle one of two ways. Get a rifle that has a non-detachable 10 round magazine such as the FAB-10. The downside is that you have to unhinge the upper to reload the gun. Good for a bench queen or varmint rifle, not for defense.

A new company is coming out with a pistolgrip-less AR-15. It allows you to use detachable mags, but still sucks... a lot. Since high-cap mags are banned, you're limited to shooting 10 rounders... lame.

Mini-14's and Kel-Tec SU-16's are both legal if you HAVE to have a 223 semi-auto carbine. M1A's are a good choice if you want a 308. H&K 308 is banned. My advice is stick to bolt guns until you leave the PRK.
