I had originally planned on buying a rifle, but a friend made me a deal I just couldn't pass up on his Model 10. (I'm 15, so mentally substitute "I" for "My Mother")

So, since this state requires paperwork for private party transfers :fire: I went down to a shop to meet up with our friend. Computers were down. So we went a few miles to the local indoor range, where the real fun began. For those of you who didn't know this, in California a firearm must be sold with a trigger lock. If you don't buy one from the dealer at the time, you must present a receipt indicating purchase of one within the last 30 days or sign an affadavit stating you own a DOJ-approved safe. Anyways, our friend was going to give us a trigger lock and put it in the case with the gun. No dice, it would seem. We had to buy a lock from them.

Then, they found out my mom wasn't a citizen- so she had to have her greencard and three consecutive utility bills. Luckily, we lived nearby so she ran home, got the necessary papers, and came back. Since she's getting her greencard renewed, there's a stamp on her passport that is supposed to act as one until she receives the new card. Since the guy had never seen this stamp before, he had to check with the other guy and see if this was acceptable.

So the rest of the paperwork proceeded without a hitch, and we were out the door. But what was supposed to take 45 minutes or so at most ended up taking two hours, and costing $38.61. If we had lived in a free state it would take a few seconds (enough for the gun to physically exchange hands) and cost us jack s***. But it's all over and done with, and on August 23rd at or after 4:56 P.M. Pacific Standard Time, I/mom will be a gun owner! Promise to update and post pics.

Thank you Alex for reminding me of one of the reasons I will never live there. :p

As a former President of the U.S. said, "I feel your pain"! He was FOS, I mean it! :(

When Aug 23rd comes, don't polish all that blue of it. ;)

Alex, when you start voting, remember this experience. Voting Democrat will make it worse.:cuss:

Marshall, I wish a lot more felt like you.
Californy is getting crowded with all the folk from other states. :uhoh:
And all they do is whine for more benefits and vote Democrat...l:cuss:

Right on Man!

Like New Jersey, just keep electing Democrats that end up embarrassing them. Lessons are not learned there either.

Just like this campain for Pres is going! Lets lie and tell the people what the polls say they want to hear, lets have no morals or any gumption! But the way polls are going, they're sure a lot of blind Americans. Or, maybe more Americans are becoming that way themselves and identify with him. Sad, either way!

Anyway, in general, I likes Smith's better than Taurii. :D

Glad to hear you're getting a M10. But now you gotta start saving up again for that 10/22!!

Calif. does have some pretty dumb gun laws, passed by some pretty dumb politicians, who were voted into office by some real dumb ass liberals.

At least you're getting a taste of this politico bs at an early age and will hopefully use your voting rights wisely when you turn 18.

Good luck with the gun and look foreward to seeing pics of it.
PS: Is mom gonna get to shoot it?

Let me show you why it's so bad.

Let's set up a scale of 1 - 10, where "10" is absolute flat-out commie and "1" is die-hard arch-conservative minus racist trends.

The average California voter is somewhere around a "5.2" or so. Not totally gonzo, but pretty socialistic, at least in the big urban areas. And the urban areas are BIG: 5mil in the greater SF Bay Area, 15+mil in the greater LA area.

The average urban voter is closer to a 5.9/6. But because there's not enough conservative urban voters and even fewer conservative political activists. But there's TONS of socialistic political activists...swarms of 'em.

These produce the urban politicians which in turn are closer to 8 or 9 on the scale because there's no urban conservative counter-balance.

Effectively, the entire legislature is thus much further left than either the state as a whole or even their own urban constituency.

And then there's term limits.

Term limits are turning out to be a BAD idea. Know why? Because the "commie politicians" coming out of the urban zones start out zealously so, and then MELLOW. They smarten up some. Not a LOT but...you know the line about young people are Democrats if they have a heart, and are Republicans later if they have a brain? Well Burton, Vasconcellos, Steinburg and company don't exactly turn REPUBLICAN as they gray but they do get half a clue eventually.

They may be annoying but I really dread having to deal with their eager-beaver young replacements next year when they term out :barf:.
