PALMDALE, Calif. (AP) - A mother faces firearms charges after she allegedly drove her son's friends to a rival gang member's house to take part in a shooting, authorities said.

Michelle Wright, 37, pleaded not guilty Thursday to three counts of assault with a firearm and one count of shooting a firearm at a dwelling, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Detective Robert Gillis on Friday. She was held on $250,000 bail.

Wright drove her son's two friends to a rival gang member's house in Palmdale early Tuesday, authorities said. One of the son's friends got out and fired at a bedroom window before the three drove away.

Two small children and a teen were in the room, but no one was injured.

Detectives acting on a tip arrested the woman's son and the gunman, Gillis said. Authorities recovered a shotgun they suspect was used in the shooting, he said.

Wright told authorities she drove her son's friends to do the shooting because she believed police were not doing enough to stop gang members from harassing her children, Gillis said.

Wright's son and the two other teens, whom authorities have accused of being members of a street gang, were charged and held in juvenile custody.

An attorney representing Wright could not be located, and her phone number was unlisted.

Palmdale is located in northern Los Angeles County.

when the police do not help

it leads to things like this.

Gunsmith, though I am far from a police apologist, I think this could more accurately be blamed on bad parenting probably starting with the mother's mother's mother.

It is just the way of life in the hood. Suprised any one snitched on em.

sorry, I didn't mean to police bash

as a cab driver who has had one to many "ride and run" ...I find the culprit, they do not have ID and the cops just kick them loose!:fire:

What would happen to me if I punched them in the nose?

the mom clearly did the wrong thing, and is likely a candidate for MMM membership.

Even though I hate Rudy, what he did with NYPD was ok, if you didn't have ID after committing a crime you went to jail until it was proven who you were.
Even if it was a 5 dollar ride and run, or non payment of bus fare.

police tend to ignore low level crime until it blows up into things like this.
I understand they are busy with dead bodies and stuff and that 5 dollars scofflaws are boring but when I have to cough up the five dollars it really stinks.

Just more trash to add to the press and another welfare mother that does not have the responsibility to care for kids. There are all together too many cases like this where the parent is directly responsible for their children's shortfalls. At least in this case this particular parent is being held accountable.

Haha... Kids like that dont usually follow the law so having or not having a drivers license wouldnt keep them from getting into a vehicle they owned or not. Just my 2 cents

Hey mommy can you me and my friends a ride to Billys house? Shure kids but why this late at night? Well we want to shoot him. (pause) Ok you kids have fun.
This is how the story will be spun.:barf:

Woho 200th post:cool::D:)

Now, now, the mom was just trying to be more involved in her son's life, just like the public service announcements say to do.

She probable even discussed drugs with him and his friends, "Son, how much profit did you and your friends make on the two pounds of pot I gave you to sell?"

hard to have compassion for California. they've created their own atmosphere.

Wow I was embarrassed when mommy had to drive me to the mall

Am I a bad person because this made me nearly fall over laughing?
I sure hope not

If mom is mad at the police for not cracking down on gangs why did she not turn her own kids over to a boot camp or hit them with a belt or something

Uh, no. Her son and her son's friends were gang members themselves - most likely rival gang members. If she knew gang members were harassing her son, she most likely knew he was a gang member. This is not the logical conclusion to stopping gang members from harassing your gangster son. Stopping him from being a little thug is.

Exactly! Just think of the street cred these kids lost. Not only did they shoot at kids and botch a hit, but they had Ms. Wright do the drivin'!

My guess is that the mom was (and probably still is) involved with the gang in her misspent youth, and she's still part of the 'family' in some fashion, and it was her job to do the driving for the hit...

These are the same moms the papers always quote after her gangbanger kid gets shot by a cop or honest citizen in self-defense : "He wasn't no killer, he was a good, sweet lil' boy who never did nobody no harm"

I'll give her credit for actually doing something about it. Most people will just complain and moan and never lift a finger (pull a trigger?) to do anything about it.

Things like this remind me of my favorite scene in the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (Strother Martin is Percy Garris, the mine boss in Bolivia and he's hired Butch and Sundance as payroll guards. In the scene they're headed down the moutain to get the payroll.)

I bet their Gang leader feels the same way.........

Percy Garris: [singing] Oh don't you remember sweet Betsy from Pike / Crossed the high mountains with her lover Ike / Two yoke of oxen and big yellow dog / Called Shanghai rooster and one spotted hog / Hoodle-dang-hootie-i-doh, hoodle-dang-hootie-ay, hoodle-dang-hootie-i-doh, hoodle-dang-hootie-ay / Shanghai ran off and the cattle all died / last piece of bacon that morning was fried...
Butch Cassidy: [interrupting] I think they're in the trees up ahead.
Sundance Kid: In the bushes on the left.
Butch Cassidy: I'm telling you they're in the trees up ahead.
Sundance Kid: You take the trees, I'll take the bushes.
Percy Garris: Will you two beginners cut it out.
Butch Cassidy: Well, we're just trying to spot an ambush, Mr. Garris.
Percy Garris: {spits} Morons. I've got morons on my team. Nobody is going to rob us going down the mountain. We have got no money going down the mountain. When we have got the money, on the way back, then you can sweat.
