Three gang members tried to ambush a suspected rival but ended up killing one of their own, police said.
The incident occurred Wednesday evening when Carlos Cortez, 18, Marcus King, 16, and a 16-year-old boy saw a light colored SUV they thought belonged to a rival gang, Los Angeles police Lt. Paul Vernon said. Cortez placed himself on the opposite side of the street from the other two and fired several shots at the vehicle when it passed by a second time, he said.

Cortez's shots struck King in the stomach and he died later that night at a local hospital, Vernon said.

The SUV sped away. Detectives do not know whether any shots were fired from that vehicle, Vernon said.

Cortez and the juvenile were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, he said.

Anybody see that Mind of Mencia bit where he had the "Drive By Shooting School"? It was hillarious!

One gangbanger tries to hold the gun sideways, and misses. Carlos rotates the pistol to the proper position, and the gangbanger is like, "whoa...it even has these things on top!" LMAO!

Oh, and don't forget to turn the hydraulics off BEFORE you start shooting. :D

How about an actual murder charge?
There's probably a half dozen feloines there.

Oh yeah, and LA continues to be a tough city to CCW.

Don't want the wrong people to have guns, you know.

Sometimes there are things better than the criminal justice system....like the "poetic" justice system.

Its a dangerous place out here. Me being the only white guy in the neighborhood where I live, I take extra precautions. Things like not going in bad places at night, locking car doors when driving and when I see a carload of young guys all dressed alike driving around suspiciously, I leave the area. I also ensure that when I move into a place, it is not in the line of fire from the street in case someone wants to do a driveby on the neighbors or the folks that lived there before me.

I give credit to my wife for teaching me the nuances of living in a big city. She is Hispanic and she works with special Ed in public school. These are the trouble kids, not the handicapped and most of these kids are gangmembers.

Oopsy!

Kinda reminds me of that scene in Ronin where the wanna-be tries to draw out the "cross-fire" ambush, just before DeNiro stomps on him.

Guys, this is bad news.
Another innocent child was just injured with evil firearms, you know this means we need more gun control.

For the children!

:banghead:

...Actually, I wish they just wouldnt list it as a firearm related fatality in the statistics. Clearly it was stupidity that caused this death.

That is exactly what I was thinking
Great scene.
"What is the color of the boathouse?"

 He will go to jail? I think they should give him a medal and set him loose. Then they will have to give the next guy of the same gang one too. On and on it goes until you don't have a gang no more. :)

I saw a similar incident about a year ago. The driver of a vehicle in a drive-by ended up with a .223 round through his melon as the passenger -shooting past him- "followed through" with his shots. Unfortunately the passenger was caught and we in CA will be supporting that crook for decades as he sits and trains to be a better felon. One down, a few thousand more to go.....

Reminds me of the time I went to a neighborhood meeting once and a local police offer said the biggest problem facing the police at the time was stopping all the gangs from killing each other. My problem was that I did not understand how them killing each other was a problem. Sounded like it was a solution.

How about an actual murder charge?

+1. IANAL, but I thought if you are trying to commit murder, and in the process of that attempt, accidentally murder someone else, you can be charged as if you in fact killed the intended target.

Also, while I am not going to lose any sleep over the death of a gang member, it's not good when these guys are shooting up neighborhoods. Innocent bystanders are at risk, probably moreso than the intended targets since these guys often can't shoot worth beans.

If these gangmembers hate each other so much, why don't they just go out to a secluded area and have a duel?
