Saw this article on my Facebook news feed, and it points out something that has been loosely touched on here: When in a self defense situation, call 911 whenever it is safe to do so. Do not wait. In this instance, an attempted robber called 911 after being shot at by his victim. In this instance, the police did the leg work and found who the aggressive party was and charged appropriately.

If possible, yes. Always try to be the first (between you and anyone you shoot or pull a gun on) to call in.

Who calls the cops first is considered the victim.

Flight is considered a sign of guilt.

Not always true, but usually first assumptions.
