I spoke with the Director of Operations and Transportation Superintendent for my school district yesterday concerning safety for all of us who drive the school buses in Our system.I expressed my concern in light of the school boards and administrators updating our school security programs in light of the current events and Tragedies we all have witnessed.I cut to the chase as He knows my experience and qualifications and simply asked Him what He was going to institute to protect the Drivers and Students on the buses.I told Him of the Buckeye Firearms Associations program here in Ohio that is the first organization in Our state to initiate a training program and broke the details of that training down.He told me he had heard of the program and stated that it in fact was only for a In school active shooters scenario.he did not discount the program other than that fact.I then turn the topic to the fact that His signs He placed recently on Our bus garage facilty were ridiculous and That they in no way would deter any Criminal .and expressed to him that without exception the past and recent tragedies were all GUN FREE ZONES,in which he quickly told me that was not true, that Columbine had armed guards on Duty. he also stated That He By-Law must place the Gun free zone signs.I in turn told Him that By law in Our state It is legal for school employees to carry a Fire arm per my friend the Ohio Attorney general from whom I received a personal email as too that ruling, I also explained that with the posting of those signs that if in fact a shooting Occurred The school board could possibly Be held accountable for should a victim choose that route after the fact that They did not provide the said free gun zone they constituted.Too close out I believe I face a long uphill battle ,he did arrange for the Directors he has to sit down with me to gain the experience I have being a Bus driver and managing large crowds and Threats at Concerts and Events..all in all I think He was just feeling Me out...I will continue on with them inspite of the discouraging talk...I will keep You all posted Thanks for the support...

He's been listening to Feinstein too much. The armed guard at Columbine first engaged the shooters from outside at a distance to great to reasonably be effective with a handgun.

Sounds like it's mostly a matter of a lack of education or incorrect education more than anything. He seems like logic and reasoning aren't entirely lost on him. You have an uphill battle indeed, though.

The issue isn't the armed guard, but rather that by posting signs at schools and other places as Safe Zones they encourage and invite shooters to use them as killing fields.

The concept here is that by posting signs an individual who is so insane they would in cold-blood murder helpless children, will withdraw because they are willing to comply with the restrictions stated on the sign.

Put bluntly, these signs in themselves provide no protection, and instead actually attract killers.

Your focus should be on the bus drivers at this point. None of you have an armed school officer on the bus or following it. The driver in Alabama who was murdered by the madman that took the child off the bus might have been able to stop the incident had he had the option of being armed.
