I asked 3 Ohio Highway Patrolmen that safety check all the buses at Our bus garage the other day if I have my firearm locked up in my vehicle in my car in the garage parking lot was I violating the school Gun Free safety zone per Our school system and state law,They all said YES,but If you do it, Just keep quiet...Interesting choice I can Make...

Don't ask them. Look up the law and read it for yourself.

This is an excerpt from Tennessee code 39-17-1309 says:

(c) (1) It is an offense for any person to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, any firearm, not used solely for instructional or school-sanctioned ceremonial purposes, in any public or private school building or bus, on any public or private school campus, grounds, recreation area, athletic field or any other property owned, used or operated by any board of education, school, college or university board of trustees, regents or directors for the administration of any public or private educational institution. It is not an offense under this subsection (c) for a nonstudent adult to possess a firearm, if the firearm is contained within a private vehicle operated by the adult and is not handled by the adult, or by any other person acting with the expressed or implied consent of the adult, while the vehicle is on school property.

Not cool to put them on the spot like that unless you already knew it was OK - but then why ask?

Now you're "that guy" and they have a responsibility which they hope never bites them in the rear professionally.

Here is what I could find for Ohio. It is NOT a complete search, but just a quick result.

2923.122 [Effective 3/27/2013]

(4) This section does not apply to a person who conveys or attempts to convey a handgun into, or possesses a handgun in, a school safety zone if at the time of that conveyance, attempted conveyance, or possession of the handgun all of the following apply: (a) The person is carrying a valid concealed handgun license. (b) The person is the driver or passenger in a motor vehicle and is in the school safety zone while immediately in the process of picking up or dropping off a child. (c) The person is not in violation of section 2923.16 of the Revised Code. (E) (1) Whoever violates division (A) or (B) of this section is guilty of illegal conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance in a school safety zone.

You are going to have to dig to see if you can find anything that will help you. You might also want to suggest the Tennessee wording to your State Congressmen.

Cops get asked what-if questions all the time. If they had a "that guy" for every asker, they'd have to fill the library of Congress with names.

Right except these three work at the same site as the OP so now he's "that guy" in a much smaller pool.

An example of what I'm talking about might be a firearms incident occurs on or around the site and the OP comes up in conversation as "that guy" as a reference to a fella asking about his gun being on site.

I endeavor to not be "that guy" as much as possible.

I have read the Ohio code a ton trying to dissect it for the purpose of Not having to drive home when I go from my school bus driving job too my Concert venue transporting the performers to get my Firearm ..Looks like its gonna be the Extra trip home I'm not gonna take the risk of a Violation...My CCW Instructor has a autistic son he delivers too school and he can drop him off but cannot leave the vehicle in front of the school, sometimes he has problems with him and has to take him inside,he then must park in the lot secure the firearm in the vehicle and go into the building ,basically he is in violation according to the law as I would be ..with His firearm in the car and in the parking area..I just cannot get a proper understanding so last week I messaged the Ohio attorney general for a answer..

Good Point Rat but the neighborhood is not safe enough to leave a vehicle let alone with a Firearm inside it, yet another reason to have My Firearm on my Hip.If I could only carry on the Bus it would not be a issue at all...but My Bus is a criminal Safety Zone..
