I need help guys. I just listed an oddball rifle on GB for a friend and cannot find any specific info whatsoever. The rifle is a Sako Battue on a AV action. What I have found is the Battue is a carbine model with Quarter Rib and Express sights. The AV action dates 1979/1980. The rifle comes with the original box with the caliber (280 rem) hand written on the box. Does anyone know how many of these hit the market or what they cost? I own several books and none have this model and caliber listed.

Sako Whitetail/Battue, a carbine / rifle was originally developed for Boar hunting in France, designed for quick shooting with a quarter rib and V-notch rear site, and 18 1/2' Barrel. These rifles were made in the Medium action (.243,.308,7mm-08) and Long action (25-06 thru 375 H&H)
I have not seen one in 10 years...Too bad the 280 cartridge does not lend itself to short barrels.

Sako Whitetail Battue?

Float,

I found all of this info except the Whitetail/Battue moniker. I have seen the Tikka called that but not the Sako. Did you find that online?

This was from Frank de Haas book "Bolt Action Rifles 4th Ed." Not sure if it really helps though, maybe Tikka recycled the name for another rifle?

.280s were kind of a rare caliber for Sako / Tikka for the longest time. Sako has made more than Tikka, from what I see/have seen.

I have seen Battue rifles from time to time, but not many, maybe 3 or 4 in the last 15 years or so. All online, none in person.

:banghead::banghead::banghead: A Tasco turd on top of that beautifull rifle? Really??:cuss:

Thanks bullz, that looks like it.
Yes sir, that is it.

Jehu, I hear you. I will never understand why someone would put a $20 scope on a $1500 rifle, but I see it all of the time. It got so bad that when someone ask how much a gun cost without the scope I just tell them that I have a closet full of cheap scopes and don't need any more. The price presented is for the gun. The scope is FREE!
