came across a great piece of history today

It turns out that the officer tried to use a 9X18mm round which didn't fire.
Try telling the story one more time please.
It didn't fire because a 9x18 wouldn't fit in the 9x19 chamber.
Are you sure it wasn't a 9x17 cartridge (.380acp) he tried to use? Someone already suggested that earlier.
9x18 bullet diameter is .365, vs the 9x19 and 9x17 diameter of .355 .

Rats! I thought we were on the trail of uncovering some rare and exotic, one- of-a-kind Hi-Power. Oh well, still would like to see what it looks like with all the engraving on this presentation model.

OK. My brain was locked in on the story being told to me and looking at the 4 in the 40th Anniversary part of the engraving apparently. I asked the owner today and he said it is indeed a 9mm after all. Yeah I'm brain dead sometimes. But I know that he told me it was a .45 and that the officer tried to use a 9mm round in it. It turns out that the officer tried to use a 9X18mm round which didn't fire. Too bad I guess. It would have been great to see a .45. I can't get over how it looked like a single stack mag though. That part really makes me look stupid. I guess the mags aren't that wide for a double stack but still.

It's OK.

I woke up one night with my backyard so bright it could have been a movie set. I live at the end of a dead end gravel road in some very dense woods with my nearest neighbor about 300' feet away. I'm talking about 747 landing light illumination here sort of like that movie Close Encounters. We don't have any artificial light coming from anything around here. My dog didn't go on high alert because she keys on scent and sound mostly being a bird dog. I was sure I was dealing with aliens for a few minutes and was looking for some kind of silent spacecraft hovering near by. Turns out the sheriff had followed a car down my road and pointed his high powered aux lights into my backyard.

Everything isn't as they seem at first and it pays to investigate even when there is little doubt about what you think you are actually looking at.

All I know is what the neighbor told me. And that changed from one day to the next. Draw your own conclusions. I'm sure he didn't mean to get it wrong. We all have our moments I guess.

I'll try to get him to bring it back so I can take a photo or two. It was pretty dazzling. It made me see things that weren't there apparently. ;)
